Uninstall that crap and start using bittorrent

Under Windows, the best bittorrent client (IMO) is µTorrent.

This site provides a decent guide on how to use bittorrent, although it's a bit older so they talk about using Azureus rather than µTorrent.

I actually use torrents, but i like to have a p2p for when i just want that one song. Ive been using Bitlord, but i'll have to check out the one you suggested.

Ah, well you might want to check out soulseek then. I haven't used it in awhile, but it's the most recent one I've used and liked. These days, with increasing hard drive space and bandwidth, I don't find myself bothering to download individual songs anymore

Why don't you download torrents that list the album as individual tracks from which you could pick and choose the songs you want? Between the virus risk, the typically poor quality of the songs and the fact that too many p2p programs are malware there really isn't too much of a reason to use a p2p.

While you may be open to many of the same risks when downloading torrents - you'll be on the safer side if you use reputable sites to locate the torrents and download only after you've read several good comments on the particular torrent.

But if you're dead-set on using a p2p then from what I can remember Soulseek was decent.

Very true, maybe Bitlord doesn't have this capability, but with µTorrent you can download only certain files from a torrent (provided they're not all packed up in a zip or rar).

BitLord gives you the option right when you click the .torrent file.

There are many situations where traditional P2P is better than BitTorrent (which is, technically,. another P2P netowrk but we all know what you meant). For instance, try downloading the song Tarzan Boy by Baltimora.

He'll also be safer if he uses a reputable P2P client.

Personally, I use KCeasy. It's a giFT client. That means that it uses a set of independent plugins to access various P2P networks, simultaneously. I have plugins for Ares, Gnutella, OpenFT and OpenFT networks.

By the way, this topic has been brought up here, time and time again. Did the original poster even try to do a search?

ew bitlord... its add supported, bleh.

use azureus, http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

no ads, modular, java based. it does have a huge footprint though.

Dilbert, have you tried µTorrent? I just switched to it recently after using Azureus for a few years. It has almost all the same necessary functionality, but uses WAY less memory.

thats what I've heard, right now azureus resides on my server in the garage, I'm not concerned by the footprint, I'm concerned on hard drive access, azureus uses the hard drive less often, which preserves the drive health.

Oh, i never thought of that. i could just pick the one song i want from the full album torrent. I'll just try that for a while cause i like torrents better. Thanks for all the info everyone.

A lot of BitTorrent clients implement large file buffers, presumably because they don't trust that the OS's file buffers are adequate. I can only suppose that µTorrent does no such thing...

i use PHEX. well mostly for the gf when she wants 1 song but ya, phex is great, open source and theres no ads.

Utorrent is a great client but I'm considering switching over to Azureus simply because of Utorrents questionable partnership with a subsidiary of Retspan - a company well known for their shady anti-piracy tactics. The fact that the client is completely free and remains closed-source doesn't help to easy my suspicions either.
