Blown up comp..need advice
About 3 weeks ago I came home after work to see that my comp was not on, knowing that I left it on. So I press the power button a few times with the repeated response is it tries to start then shuts down, so out of my arrogance and stupidity I pull the power cord outa the surge bar and jam it into the wall. Then all hell breaks loose. An arch about 10 inches long is shooting out the outlet and I freak.
So I buy a new psu and everything works..For one day. Since then I’ve bought a new mobo and I still have the same problem. Where it tries to start but then shuts down. Any Ideas before I throw this thing out the window. |

Have you tried moving the computer (temporarily) to another room or outlet? If your outlets disperse 10 inch arcs of electricity when you plug in a device, the outlet itself has a problem. Try other outlets before you blame the computer, on this one.
Also; does your computer issue any beeps before it shuts down? Does anything display on the monitor?

Take a flathead screwdriver and touch the two terminals that the Power Button plug was just on. If you've got a stuck power button on the case, you'll know. I've fixed a few computers this way, and there's nothing dangerous (less than 5V on the PWR toggle pins).
