Max CPU speed for motherboard?
I have a MSI K7T266Pro2. http://www.msicomputer.com/product/d...el=K7T266_Pro2
The specs say I can go to a 1900+XP, does that mean I'm limited to that to a 1900mhz XP? Is there a way to put a faster XP chip in the motherboard? I just read that half life 2 wants a 2 ghz system, I don't mind spending 60 dollars to turn my 1500xp to a 2000+ghz system. -happymaan |
An XP 2000+ is not really 2GHz. You should probably find out what Half Life 2 really needs before you spend any money. If Sierra has a system spec. they might specify it separately for Athlon and for Pentium4. You might even not have to upgrade at all.

To answer you question, No. You can not put a processor on a board where the processor is faster than what the bord will take. The board will not recognize it and it will not boot.

and you should do fine w/ the athlon xp 1900+ for half life 2.

Check and see if you have a bios update for your board somtimes the updated bios will let you run higher cpus but athlon xp's dont run at the speed on the box its just a pr rating amd is basicly saying that a 1900 or what ever does the same amount of work as a p4 1900

you can overclock to 2ghz!

Just update the bios and you should be able to get better than a xp 1500+, depending on what version your 1900+ is you should be able to overclock the hell out of it
