Moving or separating older files on Laptop running with Windows XP
In my Dell laptop, I have a 40Gb hard drive with only 4 Gb of space left. Many of the files are older, but still may contain important information that I want to keep. I would like to separate the older files, say everything prior to 2005, from the more recent files, and archive them into a storage device. The catch is that I would like to keep the files in folders of the same name that they are currently in now. For example, if I have 30 files in the folder "My Documents", and there are 15 files from 2004 and 15 files from 2006, I want to export the 2004 files into storage in the "My Documents" folder. Is there an easy solution to this in Windows XP or any known freeware that does this?
Just to expound on this, I have tried to use the method of saving all the files and folders to storage and just delete all of the newer files using the File Search function, but it takes way too long and sometimes my laptop hangs up during the process. |
