The "eBooks" folder question again?
Just got a new notebook and everytime I click and delete the "E-Books" folder from my Windows Explorer it just pops up again. I've looked averywhere in my programs for E-Book but can't seem to find the program. I looked under msconfig and startup and nothing (unless e-books has a secret file name). It's like the "filelib" folder that AIM creates when you log on to it. But that was an easy fix in their properties menu. Anyone know where I can find E-Books in my system so that I can either redirect the folder or delete the program altogether? Thanks.

I've seen a few versions of "My ebooks" but I don't recall one named "E-Books".
Where is it created? On the desktop? In My Documents? Does it appear immediately? After a delay or after a reboot?

More than likely it is 'hard-coded' into the registry and upon scan or reboot it is replacing itself. I got rid of mine and if I remember correctly it was in the registry. Good luck.

Gets created in "My Documents". It appears usually after rebooting or if I'm online for a half hour or so. How do I access the registry?

first uninstall microsoft reader if it's on your system.
then: start - run type "regedit" (without the quotes) and hit enter do a search for "ebook" and delete whatever you find (assuming you don't want to use ebooks) Be VERY CAREFUL here. The registry is a dangerous place to be if you don't know exactly what you're doing. Delete the wrong value and you could find yourself reinstalling your operating system. |

its safer just to leave it alone, especially if you have to ask how to access the registry, you probably shouldn't be messing with it.
Before you mess with the registry, make a backup of it, just in case (export the root and all sub trees)

This answer made me chuckle - considering it's true. I shall leave it alone and have my IT buddy get rid of it. A sincere thanks for all of your help.

So I decided not to go into the registry to find and delete the eBook folders. (I've been away on business and haven't found the time to learn how to do that. Plus I feared that I would screw something up).
I did figure out that the "eBooks" folder gets created everytime I startup Adobe acrobat Standard. Does anyone know where to change that setting in Adobe so it doesn't get created or at least the folder gets created somewhere else on my computer?

1. Browse to c:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\plug_ins.
2. Delete the file Ebook.api 3. Finished. If you're uncomfortable deleting the file, create a new folder and move the file there..
