RSS Feeds

Hi,
I am a novice programmer and would like to put an RSS news feed onto a page. It seems like I have to set up a news aggregator and then sign up for the popular news feeds. Is this the most common way RSS feeds are done or is there an easier way. At the moment I am using a javascript function to pull some news feeds from a free web service but I would like the flexibity or using RSS feeds.
Are there any recommendations that you may have from your experiences or any good tools that you may have used.

I can't really help you too much with setting up an RSS feed, but for an easy free way of doing it try going to http://www.rsspect.com/
