If it's not recognized in BIOS it probably won't recognize it in Disk Management, or Device Manager, but for future reference to get to those. Right click on My Computer (I'm assuming it's Windows XP), and select Manager. There should be Device Manager, and Disk Management listed there.

Is this a desktop or a laptop? If a desktop, might be time to open it up, and make sure the cables are securely connected.

This is a physically seperate drive, not a partition right?

and no...it is a partition.......the other half of my harddrive is still there......

c and d........all is good.........a partition as well.

*confusion sets in*

Dilbert1234567 11-05-2006 01:08 PM

sounds like its dead, anything important on it?

Brewmaniac 11-05-2006 02:00 PM

Awe F***, Fly I sure hope you get your music back!

Hey fly, if you and your help can't get it fired up, I've read you can send them out and have them repaired. It will cost you but hell if your music on it, the price is probably worth it.
I feel your pain man! Good luck dude.

Dilbert1234567 11-05-2006 02:59 PM

I do data recovery here on the west cost, but your a ways away... if all you have is music, don’t worry about it, see if the drive is under warranty, and if it is, get a replacement. Then rerip the music.

I think it's original music. If this happened to me I'd crap my pants ... I have more than just my own original music on my drives.

It's weird that it's a partition. You can always splurge for some data recovery software ... personally, I'd go for a company that does data recovery.

Good luck ...

Brewmaniac 11-06-2006 08:23 AM

Fly, I found these, don't know if they really work but, here's something to check out.

http://www.highergroundsoftware.com/

http://www.harddriverecovery.org/

I sure hope something works!

Good luck again!

Dilbert1234567 11-06-2006 08:38 AM

i use Get Data Back, http://www.runtime.org/ for all my FAT and NTFS recoverey needs. its a bit expensive, teh entire bundle cost $200, but if you know what file system you were using, you can select just The one you need.

i'm running with a 54/57 succsess rate.

Fly 11-06-2006 01:16 PM

yeah well..........i took the damn harddrive in........probably be around a hundred bucks.........unless he can't retrieve anything then it costs me nothing but internal pain.

you guys have been a great help.....many thanks fellas.

cheers

Fly 11-07-2006 08:11 PM

ding-ding...........cost me money but......i got it all back

woooooooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooo.........

you guys have been a big help........thanks for all the input.

*heads off to backup all his shit*

kurty[B] 11-07-2006 11:17 PM

Good deal fly, sucks it cost money, but I'm glad you got everything back? Is the harddrive still working, or does it have bad sectors?

Fly 11-08-2006 04:54 AM

buddy formated it.........but he figures it's no good.......

i'm gonna do one on it as well with some software he gave me......said it'll take like 12 hours so.....i'll do it tonight.......

Dilbert1234567 11-08-2006 07:26 AM

dont use the drive again, if it failed once, it will fail again, soon, get the data off of it, and return the drive if its under warranty, otherwise, destroy all the data on it and use it as a paper weight.

Fly 11-08-2006 08:04 AM

damn...........paper weight it is then.

you the man dilbert

grumpyolddude 11-12-2006 06:43 PM

Whew! I feel ya, Fly! I know I'd panic if I thought I'd lost my music. Congrats on the recovery! Gotta be worth every penny.

I've never trusted partitioned hard drives. My paranoia is heightened by your experience. Separate drives, backed up, for me from now on!

Fly 11-12-2006 08:39 PM

yeah.........i now know......and the hard way too.

my tunes have there own hard drive now.....bought an 80 ..so plenty of room.

just moved a bunch of originals into my comp in my studio..so those are now safe........all are gonna be on disc soon too.

thanks grump

Dilbert1234567 11-12-2006 10:27 PM

nothing is wrong with partitions.
