Comcast and dial up on same machine?

Comcast is the only broadband game in town where I live and when the wind blows it's out. I know this might sound crazy but can have both Comcast and dial up on same machine, so when cable's out i've got something?

If the answers yes what do I have do to configure my machine?

Oh I'm hooked up to my home network on this pc wirelessly. I would only want dial up on this one.

Windows XP home edition.

It's possible. I used to have to do it at work on a machine connected to the LAN so that I could test things from outside the network back in the old days.

(I'm not sure if Home edition has any caveats for this though).

Just create a new connection in the network wizard under control panel and follow the prompts for setting up a dial up connection.

Something like:

Connect to the Internet

Set up connection manually

Connect using a dial up account

As far as getting web browsers to work, I don't think you have to finagle anything.

Sorry I can't be more specific right now. I'm at work.

im sure it can be done even if it means setting it up each time you have to use the dialup. I feel your pain with comcast btw. I have comcast isp as well But... it dosnt go out when the wind blows. just when its cloudy or raining or snowing or the day ends in the letter Y. Comcast sucks as a isp but they know what they are doing. they go to ares where people have no other option and overcharge for the worst service they can offer and they know... theres not a damn thing you can do about it.

Plaid, you crack me up! Ya, Comcast blows dead dogs!
I like the cable tv features, on demand movies, dual tuner dvr. But it goes out all the time. I had direct tv from the beginning, I was in the TV and appliance business back then and when I got my first dish I paid $750, dealer cost for my home. It never went out unless it was really storming, then the most it would be is about 30 minutes.

There I go thread jacking my own thread!

My sister has Comcast, and she would agree that it bites. Installing AOL used to wipe it out.

My laptop works just fine configured for a LAN cable, wireless, and a couple of dialup connections. The dialup is handy when I'm visiting friends who don't have broadband.

If that helps.

Thanks all, I downloaded a $9.95 dial-up ISP and go right on, like now I'm using dial-up as wind is howling here and comcast is not working again.

I have had direct tv since the first day it was available in the area. According to the installer we were the first people in the county to have it. Never regreted ditching comcast cable for direct tv. just wish i could get abetter isp now.
