Disabling a popup blocker
I have a popup blocker that I believe is one that works with my browser, which is IE. I need to disable the blocker, but I have no idea where to look or how to go about it. I'm pretty computer illiterate when it comes to this type of thing, so I'm apologizing in advance. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Any idea of what popup blocker you have on your computer? Probably the only advice to give without knowing that would be to try and Google your problem. Out of curiousity, why do you need to disable it?

I'm guessing it's a google bar blocker...it's attached to IE somehow, because we don't have any blockers like POW or anything like that. I need to disable it because I need access to my healthcare benefits and there is a popup window required to access them and it keeps getting closed.

It should say right on the toolbar what kind it is - google toolbar says Google, Yahoo says Yahoo, or some other kind will say what kind it is. If you right click on it, it might give you the options for preferences. Otherwise, there should be an option to click on to go there. If you can't find it, let us know what toolbar it is, or at least a screenshot of it so we can figure it out

You should uninstall this pop-up blocker right away.
If you don't know the name of the blocker then how did it find it's way to your computer? This represents a security risk of your computer and your personal information as this blocker may be malware that's phoning home your passwords, keystrokes and all sorts of sensitive information (like the sort that's available through sites that allow you to find out about your health coverage.) Scan for viruses and see if the blocker or anything related to it comes up. And even if it isn't malware, the blockers job is to perform only the tasks you want and offer an interface that's easy to use and facilitate even further manipulation of the program to your desires. Sounds like the blocker you have doesn't do any of that. ...and while you're uninstalling the blocker you should download Firefox which has an easy to use pop-up blocker that tells you when it's blocking a site and allows you to show the site if you'd like...

Also - if you hold CTRL while you click a link, in most cases that will disable a popup blocker for that specific click.

After much putzing around, I found it. It's seems to be a Yahoo popup blocker, since it's with a whole bunch of other Yahoo stuff. I'm guessing it came from a Yahoo toolbar that we used briefly awhile ago.
Manic, I've tried Firefox already, but hubby didn't like it. The funny thing is, I was using it after we had our homepage hijacked and was able to browse easily; hubby still used IE and great difficulty browsing because of popups and the homepage kept going to the hijack page. We never were able to completely get rid of the hijack and had to reformat. Thanks for the replies, everyone.

Yahoo toolbar has the popup blocker by default. Most of the toolbars do. I hate those toolbars for that reason. They tend to be very helpful, but it would be better if they just did what you want them to and not a whole bunch of other stuff.
