Don't get an A-4 Tech one. I've had two. The first one's drivers (for 'advanced middle button features' or something like that) didn't work with Win2K (yes, they were Win2K drivers). The second one I have not (and have had for half a year) is good for the most part.. but the middle scroller button sticks, which really messes with Windows, especially when you want to gain focus in another window. The optical part works.. kinda.. I can't use it on the desk itself (other optical mice work fine on the desk).. I have to use it on a piece of paper or mousepad or something. Kind of stupid, and easy to get used to but whatever...

Long story short (too late): Don't get A-4 Tech

hmm, there's a stray 'not' in there.

use a ms intellimouse explorer 5 button optic which i got for 15 bucks.

You shouldn't need to spend more than $20 unless:

You want a black/off color mouse.
You want more than 2 buttons and a wheel.
You want cordless.
You think there's no way for a $20 mouse to be any good.

Your local pet store sells mice for a good price. They might replicate if you buy two - a definite bargain.

Tell ya what to do, get a friend who just got a good mouse from logitech or microsoft and take advantage of there replacement warenty, you will get a mouse, give your friend a few dollars and he will be happy too. I know a few people who have done this, and most used a IE mouse, or a Logitech Dual Optical.

Also the cheap mice from logitech are VERY nice, there normal wheelmouse seems to be smoother then my Dual optical, or my MX500 and it is so light that it just feels right.

I think you can get a Logitech optical for like 20 smackers. Their sensors are very accurate too, more so than a similar Microsoft mouse.

Which ever model or manufacturer you choose, go optical. Rollerballs suck. Also, if you can afford it, go wireless.

I use a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 and I love it, but you really can't go wrong with anything from logitech or microsoft. Of course don't buy anything but an optical with a scroll wheel. I like having the extra buttons to use as back and forward in internet explorer.

dolemite175 06-11-2003 06:25 PM

Go optical, they aren't that expensive anymore and it's worth the extra cost

AxByC 06-11-2003 07:19 PM

I say goto a store like best buy and try out the feel on all there mice. Pick one you are confortable with.

MacGnG 06-11-2003 07:24 PM

i went to office depot and bought a Logitech Optical Scroll Mouse for like 20$

since u said cheap, it's a good mouse, been using for a few weeks and its nice, no problems

BUDD206 06-12-2003 02:04 AM

The Logitech cordless, Opitcal scroll works best for me.

Great Scott 06-12-2003 02:47 AM

And stay away from a microsoft wireless mouse. I have it and I would pay someone to take it off my hands!

rubicon 06-12-2003 06:46 AM

I have a Logitech MX500 (corded optical) and it's very nice. However, I feel the Microsoft IntelliMouse fits my hand much better.
