can you guys compare 2 video cards against each other for me? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

i did some minor googling and couldn't decipher which was better of the 2.

heres the situation.....

my buddy bought a pretty bangin' gateway desktop mostly just to play WoW. It came stocked with an

Nvidia 6100gpu

However he got advice from a guy at circuit city. the guy picked out an...

ati x1300 512mb

the guy installed it and some extra ram for him. i came by my friends house and the first thing i noticed was that the circuit city guy failed to put the stock nvidia card in the ati's box which is standard procedure. after all its not a bad video card.

then like i said i did a little research and without understanding a lot of the tech jargon i noticed that the nvidia card was coming up at about 100 bucks more expensive on average!

so im worried that my buddy got suckered into not only giving up a nice video card from his comp to this guy, but paying him to switch it out! It goes without saying that my friend is gonna make sure he gets back his old card or gets compesated for it, but i just wanted to see if there were any redeeming qualities to him actually having it done. thanks for the advice in advance.

im not sure but that nvidia might of been a onboard video so its part of the motherboard. Do you know the model number of the gateway he got? If it was a seperate video card and they didnt give it back... yeah well he just got ripped off. even if it was a pile of crap 5 year old video card they shouldnt of kept it. Most likly it was a onboard video right on the motherboard and in that case he didnt get ripped off. but... putting a ati card on a motherboard that has a nvidia chipset is never the best idea. would of been better off with a nvidia card.

This is the best card-to-card comparison and you can choose a variety of various tests to see how they fare up. There were about 6 different versions of the x1300 so you might have to be more specific. And there wasn't a 6100, the lowest Nvidia card was a 6200. You can compare the 6200 and see if the x1300 can beat it or not and if it does, then it is obviously the better card.

6100 is an onboard video card, IE, built into the mother board and not removable, however, a x1300 is hardly a video card for gaming, he would have been much better served with a 6600 GT, 2-3 times the power for the same price. Sorry to say, your friend did get ripped off.

There is little difference between the 6100 and the x1300; they are both very low end video cards.
