Best Audio (Talk show) Recorder so far is......
 

I like to record late night radio host of COAST TO COAST AM
ART BELL and his programs from Manila in the Phillipines.
(He has mostly interesting radio programs of persons he talks
to and they range from UFOs to Dream meanings to new books.)
I have used digital recorders, tape recorders that broke 2
months after I bought them and now use a recorder that works
the best so far. I use an old video tape recorder with a radio
plugged into the input. Set for "EP" or extended play,it will
record for 4 hours and the audio is excellent. I hear some ads
telling about the one I purchased on the radio telling how it
will record for 4 hours on a long play cassette but my recorder
has superior sound and did not cost me anthing as I had it
in my closet,gatering dust. Some recorders will not record any
audio unless a video signal is present but my MITSUBISHI will
work with just an audio signal from a source plugged in.

I just wondered if others use this same method to record radio
programs and if not....let's hear about what you do.:thumbsup:

I'm a bit confused. You use your VCR to record something off of the AM radio dial ?!
Sounds cool, I've never thought of doing that before.

For the shows [just sounds eclectic and says you, both npr shows] that I listen to, both of them have a stream available to listen online and I have a broadband connection, and set up the computer up to record it each week (or in your case, nightly), from the online stream.
As for software to use, it depends on what operating system you're using. I'm on Mac Os X, I use Audio Hijack, it cost about 20 or 30 dollars or so, but seemed worth it.
There might be an open-source program available on windows, not sure. If you're on linux, you can whip up a script using mplayer and cron to record it :D
(And if you don't, I might be able to help you).

Secondly, the guy might already have podcasts available on his website as well (they are recordings of the show, to play on your computer, or your ipod/other digital audio player). I listen to a couple of them as well.

Recording talk shows after Midnight
 

You said you'r confused? I am using my old VCR to record an AM
radio signal from my Sony am/fm radio. I get the signal via a
short cable plugged into the radio's earphone and plug it into
the VCR set so no video program is coming in. (Set for "L" in-
stead of channel 2 or 11 or 26.) I could pay to get the C2C
audio archives but there are not that many programs on George
Noory's week nights to interest me. (To tell the truth ole Art
Bell on the weekends has been pretty boring lately.) :)
