Firefox window size keeps resetting

Ok so a couple nights ago, it was so fucking hot that my computer just hard booted itself. Firefox hasn't been the same since.

Every new window I open up comes in the same odd, inconvenient size. It's like 700x1100... really dumb. I can resize it, close it, and open a new one and its still the same size. I've reinstalled firefox to no avail. How do I fix this?

Windows XP sp2
Firefox 1.5.0.5

When this happens to me, I resize the window so it fits within the screen, and instead of hitting "x" in the top corner, I go to "file" and then "exit." usually if i do this once or twice it goes back to normal.

When you set the screen to the size you want, try holding down the "shift" key while clicking on the "X" in the corner. It should remember the window size.

Nope.. not working.. I think something is fried. :\

In a new tab, type in "about:config" in the URL box. Then in the filter box, type in "size". One of the first entries should be for "dom.disable_window_move_resize". If it is set to "true", try setting it to "false". Just double-clicking it will change the value.

its already set to false

I had a problem with firefox a few weeks ago, plugged my cell phone in, it was added as a modem, and firefox got hosed, could not connect to anything, I removed the cell phone, no fix, removed firefox, no fix. firefox has the worst uninstall of any program i have EVER seen. i had to reinstall windows, after 2 days of trying to fix the problem.

resize to the size you want.

click maximise (button beside "X", situated between "X" and "minimize")

the "small" (restore down) size should remain when you restart firefox.

Have you tried a new profile? If you had a brutal shutdown, it's possible that the profile has been trashed. Check out Firefox Help: How To Manage Profiles.

Ahh thanks.. hosing the profile worked.

Redlemon 08-01-2006 06:41 AM

There's stuff you can recover from the old profile safely (especially bookmarks.html); that link will tell you more.

i already had my bookmarks backed up.. and I know all my logins, so I'm good. :)

i tried the profile fix, but it didn't work. the thing is that I use double monitors on my computer with windows xp. it has worked until now, but suddenly firefox (which I always have on the secondary screen) adjusts to the max monitor size of the primary screen. so if the two monitors have the same resolutions, all is fine, but as soon as the primary screen gets a lower resolution (because it is a lap top with a worse screen), firefox running on the secondary screen adjusts to the smaller max screen size. any thoughts?

..it should.

There are various resize extensions, perhaps those can help? Yet Another Window Resizer, Window Resizer, as part of Web Developer and others...
