Firefox just won't use java
I cannot use Firefox for any page that requires java. I have to use IE. I have installed the latest FF and Sun's java. This did not help. FF in safe mode (no extensions) won't use java either. I have looked to see if any feedback on the few extentions that I use causes any problems. Google has not helped. It's been two months now that I've had this problem.
Any ideas, please? |
Have you followed the instructions for installing Java at Firefox Help: Firefox FAQ (direct link to Java)? I've had no issues with Java on Mac or Windows.

flat5, if you figure out how to fix this, please share, because I have the same issue on both of my Macs. It's not a huge deal to me, because I can always just use IE, but it is a minor inconvenience. =)

Can you open the Java Console in Firefox, or do you receive any errors/feedback when attempting the install?
You might want to uninstall the Java completely and make sure that you're logged in as the administrator when you run the install :) |
Thanks, but this simple stuff has not been helpful.
When I've tried to uninstall Firefox, control panal said it is now uninstalled but the dir. with all the files was still there. I assume most of the registry settings were also still there because when re-installing, my settings were the same. FF was working for over a year then one day...problems. It might be interesting to run another program that uses Sun java to see if that works but I don't know any other programs that use it. |

Try deleting the Program folder and renaming the Profile folder, then reinstalling Firefox, then reinstalling Java. If that works, you can move selected items from your old Profile folder (e.g., bookmarks.html) into the new Profile. |
Execellent, Redelmon.
I'll try that. FF should have better un-install routines/options. |
are you getting any output/error on the java console? If you are asking "what is the java console?", it is a debugging option turned on in control panel | java | advanced tab.
In windows, this starts in the system tray if "Show Console" is selected. |
No error on java console.
I've just installed Trend Micro Anti Spy. It cleaned up some things other programs could not. I believe the problem may have gone away. |
Most likely just a spyware or virus problem as is often the case. When something goes wrong with my computer it's normally something to do with that.
