What are your computers named?
This is something I've always been curious about, and I don't recall seeing a thread about it.
I'll start off: Home Desktop #1: Phobia Home Desktop #2:Tsunami Home Laptop: Dementia Here at work we use Xmen characters for the servers, and Star Wars characters for the routers and switches and shit. "So Rogue is on Lando which is tied through Leia to get to Havok." "Sounds like they're having a good time." "Yuk yuk yuk." |
Router: Nora
WindowsDesktop: Freda FreeBSDDesktop: Margaret Mac: Ruth I had a friend with computer named fred and eric - And I have a couple of uncles named fred and eric - so I named my computer after their wives Strange I know but it works for me |
My main is wraithhibn, makes it easier to pick out on the network.
Others named after my bro and dad, Brett and Jack. |

My computers' name is Kerrigan. Since I recently started using two monitors, I don't know if I should name them both separately, or treat them as her two breasts. (Hey I stare at them all day)
My Bass's name is TALENA. |
My computers' name is Euclid.
A character in one of my favorite films had a computer of the same name... Thought it sounded cool... |

The RustBucket http://www.aquaticcomputers.com/modprofile.jpg Blue Penguin (aka my linux machine) |
My old desktop's name was Multivac, as a nod to Asimov. So when I got my laptop, I named it Microvac. In "The Last Question," the next, smaller evolution of Multivac was Microvac, so it seemed fitting.
|
At work I had to set up 6 computers all at once so I just declined a Latin verb for them: doceo, doces, docet, docemus, docetis, docent.
|
my machine is called heccubus but the plastic u fell off the case so its called heccbus now
|
Sorry, but I haven't given mine a name. I see no purpose in that.
|
I call mine "Mr Piece Of Crap F*Wit Machine That Pisses Me Off At Every Oppurtunity".
Not sure if it has a pet name for me yet. |
Mine are all named after cosmic objects. They are: puck (main workstation), altair (gateway), europa (SMP crashbox/dev box), io (DEC Alpha PWS 433au), oberon (Sun Blade 100), & callisto (SGI Indy). I also had a laptop named ganymede (Sony Vaio R505), but I'll be replacing that soon. I think I have a few more coming as well.
They all run FreeBSD except the Indy. Ganymede used to dual boot XP as well. I guess people can figure out who I really am now... |
mine is Deimos and my dad's is Phobos, two of Mars moons, and my workgroup is the Milky Way
|
I have a Network of 3 PCs in my House.
Main PC: "Alita" Downloads: "Zapan" Backup: "Ido" Can anyone guess where I get my names from? |

-------- My computers are named as follows: Main : Kali Laptop: Hecate Router : The router (not very orig) looking for another goddess name for my soon to be new server. I am trying to think of a goddess that rises from the dead in a cylic pattern (similar to the Phoenix), since it has been through many transformations. |
I named mine "Dejesus."
You don't fuck with Dejesus. |
I do believe I'll let dns answer this for me :)
$ host -t a -l universe centauri.universe. A 192.168.0.16 ceres.universe. A 192.168.0.12 charon.universe. A 192.168.0.14 classic.universe. A 192.168.0.4 deimos.universe. A 192.168.0.11 x.universe. A 192.168.0.6 I guess that explains why it is that I use dns for this rather than just a simple /etc/hosts. For the explaining of what most of the systems are, I also have text records: $ host -t txt -l universe centauri.universe. TXT "DEC Multia" ceres.universe. TXT "Personal DecStation 5000/20" charon.universe. TXT "VaxStation 4000/VLC" classic.universe. TXT "SparcStation Classic SunOS 4.1.4" deimos.universe. TXT "P200MMX Debian testing, firewall" neptune.universe. TXT "PPro180 FreeBSD 5.0DP1, Bridge" phobos.universe. TXT "Data General Aviion 530" php.universe. TXT "iBook G3/600 MacOSX, Workstation" x.universe. TXT "SparcStation 10 Solaris 9" It's a little excessive, isn't it? Now, if only I had enough power points to power them all up at once. :) |

My old one was named Mr. Computer. With this new one I decided to give it a girl's name, so I went with Mom.

My brother named his servers after cars for a while (i.e. Spider, Corvette). After accumulating so many, they are just numbers now.
As far as mine: Computer (when it acts like it's supposed to), Fucking Piece of Shit (when it decides to lockup for no reason). I believe one of my SCSI hard drives are about to die. |
Hmm, don't really have a name, but if it answered to what it was most often called, it's probably named "Stupid piece of shit!"
