buying used copy of Autocad
I have a friend who is wanting to sell hes copy of autocad. Its a legit copy. But he has no need for it. And my familes shop would like to buy it. We have 1 copy already and would like to obtain a second copy. However i have herd that buying a used copy of autocad is illegal. That people are not allowed to sell there copy.
Can someone shed some light on this?

autocad has a strict EULA, best bet is to call the makers fo autocad and ask. its a freindly transaction, no atempt to be dishonest is taking place, they should be cool with it.

You will need AutoDesk's support for this transaction. They will have little problem with it as long as the other machine is unistalled and you receive the media and all packaging to accompany the program.
You will need to call AutoDesk at Phone: 1-800-551-1490 between Monday-Friday: 5:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., Pacific time (Activation / License Hotline) and hit 0 to speak to a live operator. Your case will be escalated and you will need to explain to several people that one business is transfering the license and media to another business in a cash exchange. Assuming everything checks out, you will be issued a new activation code, and sometimes a whole new serial #

Buying used AutoCAD is tricky, especially if its a newer version. At my office we bought a one copy and the license for only one seat, and it would only let us install it on three work stations. License for AutoCAD is ridiculously expensive, I’m talking hundreds to thousands of dollars. Keep in mind that if it’s a older copy I think anything before 2002 or 2004 they will offer any support.
What version is it?

The idea is that you install the same copy at home and at work. Since you can't be both places at once, you are using the same copy. You are left with one extra install w/ the serial number in case a reinstall after system failure is needed. After that, you must call Autodesk everytime you need to reinstall. If you used all three installs from the CD on different machines that are all used by different persons, or even just two machines used by different persons in the same place and time, you are in violation of the EULA. Of all the companies I do not loose sleep over, AutoDesk does not make the list. Saying they are aggressive over the smallest infractions in an understatment. Please consider speaking to your bossess about purchasing two more seats if you need them. It's a lot cheaper than the fines a judge will impose. ![]()
