The only "AS-400" I know of was an old-ass IBM machine.. you're going to have to elaborate some more..
|
Each AS400 has it's own programs that run on it, on top of that there are numerous kinds of programs that allow you to connect to it, from dumb terminals to applications like Rumba or even Modem software of old BBS days.
You'll have to give more information as to what you're using, trying to do, etc. |
Dude, I work on the AS/400 (now called iSeries) and it's operating system, i5/OS , that it employs every day for work. It's part of my job.
I whole heartedly recommend this book, IBM i5/iSeries Primer, Fourth Edition , for anyone who wants to become familiar with the machine and it's intricacies for a start. Is there a specific question you need answered? |
Part of my job is to be the "operator" on an AS/400 system.
They are thought of as old but they still have their place too.... |
They are old. And they have no place since they can be replaced by a Linux or Unix machine costing 1/10th their price, and can be serviced by 10x more people :D
The only place they have is in keeping antiquated systems running that the designer was stupid enough to go with IBM as their platform. |
