DIY Laptop repair
I have a HP Pavilion zv6000, with a broken keyboard. I snapped 6 of the keys off, as well as 2 of the little rubber "hats" that sit under the keys and push them back up. I would like to fix the keyboard, but have a feeling it will be more than fixing the keyboard is worth to take it somewhere else. So I'm wondering if this is something I can try doing myself. I know this will void the warrenty, and I'm fine with that. I just want to know where I could get a replacement keyboard and if it is even possible to swap the keyboard out.

yes you can swap it out, i cant vouch for any retailer here, but froogle is your freind. you may also call HP and ask where to buy a new one, they should have a list of retailers.
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...-8&sa=N&tab=wf beyond that i repair laptops at my work all the time, its not to hard if you done it befor, but the first time is tough, make sure you document where each screw goes. and dont use to much force. |
I just replaced a keyboard on a Dell "something_or-other" notebook for a friend. It didn't void the warranty. Dell sent the replacement keyboard ... total cost to my friend $19 + a couple of beers. It took about 5 minutes.
Call HP and see what they say. It may not be as easy as Dell (heh). |
I fix laptops all the time for people.
it's just takes more patience and dexterity than a regular box most of the time. I got to http://www.impactcomputers.com/ fair prices all the parts that are grouped by what fits in all the different models and by manufacturer. good luck |
Wow, thanks for all the replies.
Looks like I am going to give it a shot. |
