Spyware clean-up
I just completely uninstalled a spyware program, SpywareQuake, but there is still part of it running in the utility tray.
Every 2 mins or so it pops up saying comp is infected, which it's not. It even comes up when I'm playing games. But it shouldn't be running there at all, how can I find where it is to delete it? It's there every time I startup  |
Google and download Adaware (by Lavasoft) and Spybot: Search & Destory. One of those tools should detect this false "utility" and help you delete it; likely through a boot-up scan and removal process.
Also; a quick google for "spywarequake" comes up with a quite detailed explanation by someone obviously more familiar with it than I: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/foru...html#automated There are detailed instructions for automated removal of the virus. Of note, there seems to be a variant of SpywareQuake that came out yesterday, and the instructions for removal of the new variant are already posted. |
Do what JinnKai has said, but make sure you get the authentic versions. There are some dodgy knock-offs out there.

Thanks I'll give that a try.
I've already got Spybot and Adaware, and I've also got Spyware Blaster and none of those are detecting anything. |
Go to Start > Run, type in msconfig and go to Startup. Find the program in there and disable it. See if that works at all...

The tutorial Jinnkai provided worked perfectly. Thanks.

Wait no, damn. I gotta remember what it was or start hitting the googles, but I remember a virus that my dad had that acted as a spyware program that could NOT be removed or found. I had to clean it out and lemme tell you, it was a PAIN.
Hot Diggity damn here it is, I got something right on the computer boards WOOT! http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-spyw...FTXeIgodYH8ifQ http://www.f-secure.com/sw-desc/spyaxe.shtml There you go. I remember it being more complicated to clean, but it's been a few months. |
