Howdy, fellow OSX user.

You'll find that Macs aren't the best for porn or games, though you can still find plenty. Search around some Mac sites and you can find some incredible ways to make your Mac the only computer you'll ever need.

As far as Windows Media Videos are concerned, you need to download the Windows Media Player and they all play well.

I don't know about AVIs. Perhaps Quicktime can do it?

Either way, don't get frustrated. There are plenty of ways around the Windows World Rules.

I've been on a mac until i got a new job in a PC based company...

I'm a Graphic Designer and I had never used anything but Macs. But all (a majority) the games are geared towards PC... not to mention all the damn porn... not that I view it at work.... ok just a little.

But we just upgraded at home from a G3 running 9 to a new G4 superdrive w/ double boot...... I'm wet

1) DL WMP. There is no step 2.
2) most of hte avi's out there are not real and use hacks which cause problems. get Divx Doctor 2 (which can fix audio problems) and try mPlayer & VLC.

Select the root of your porn folder as your screen saver and pic a good folder and have the desktop fade every 5 seconds

VLC - its free and plays most types of video and audio files including avi, mpg, qt, wmv. It has streaming support too. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html

For cool software look at
http://www.macupdate.com
http://www.versiontracker.com

You can make your own Divx's also with a program called forty-two. http://mail.e3ware.com/cboo/kaisakura/fortytwo.html

I beg to differ on the porn part, although you are right about games. With the proper and usually free tools, we can view the same files as the rest of the world.

For alot of the videos on TFP, a message pops up saying I don't have the right "MIME Plugin" or something like that. I'm not sure if it's because I use Safari or if I just haven't updated something properly.

Anyone else ever have this problem? I've never heard anyone complaining, so I must be missing a player...

Either way, you are right. Porn is good for the Mac.

WMP plug in will not work in any other browser than Internet Explorer. Real Player and Quicktime seem to work well for me in other browsers. The trick is to view the page source for any page containing a movie you cannot see and search for either a .wmv or .asf. Once you find the url, you can copy and paste it to your browser. Once it loads you can save as and view it within WMP or VLC.

When it comes to folks here posting WMP shit, I just hit reply on there post and snag the URL then open a new tab and plup the url in and that downloads the file. If its' a link just right click (control click) and do save target then open in WMP.
