Anybody know how to completely uninstall "sticky keys" accessibility program?

A Forum search has not answered this question.

I'm using XP Pro sp1. I want to remove the possibility of the "sticky keys"
utility popping up and making a mess of things.
"Cancel" once sticky has started, does not work.

I have not found an option under accesibility to remove this "feature".

Someone know how to remove it?

Please !! :-)

Go into accessibility settings,(in control panel) then sticky keys settings, then click on the box next to turn sticky keys off. If two or more keys are pressed at once, press OK twice, then hold the left shift button and a letter and it will turn off!
The second way will disable it all together

thx alphi phi.

There might be a registry setting to remove sticky keys altogether but it's still a mistery to me.

There is. But I can't for the life of me remember how to do it.

Open \windows\inf\sysoc.inf

Look for this line: (about line 33)
AccessOpt=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,optional.inf,HIDE,7

Remove "HIDE" so it looks like:
AccessOpt=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,optional.inf,,7

Save, close.

Open Add/remove programs. Switch to add/remove Windows components. "Accessories and Utilities" should already be highlighted. Click the details button. You should now see "Accessibility Wizard". Uncheck it, click ok, and stickykeys et al will be removed.

Edit: BTW, yes, stickykeys can be controlled by registry changes but you're just reaching under the covers. No different than opening the stickykeys window and checking its boxes. If you really want it gone (along with the rest of the accessibility stuff) then the method above makes it easy to remove or replace.

Edit: BBTW, use a plain text editor, and be careful.

I may have to re-boot for it to show in Add-Remove.

Thaks again, cyrnel

You shouldn't. Just make sure to look in "add/remove windows components." Accessibility isn't in the initial programs list.

Ah yes, I missed "windows components".

However, if I hold down a key for eight seconds, "FilterKeys" pops up.

Interesting. Never noticed this before. I didn't follow the code everywhere but several pieces are left behind even after the uninstall. If you don't disable all keys, including from within the individual "settings" windows, any active key setting will still fire it up. This is true even if the top level checkbox is unchecked. But since you uninstalled accessibility, now you can't get to the settings to change it.

Reinstall accessibility (you'll need your cd), deactivate everything and make sure it's dead, then uninstall again.
