BIG problems with my computer; need help ASAPIP
You might know that I bought a new video card to play World of Warcraft with you guys, and that I was expecting to get it today. Well I did. Super-excited about finally being able to play that and other games that I couldn't play before, I realize that the cables from the power supply are constructed so if you have a video card plugged in, you can't have your hard drive plugged in; and vice versa. I wondered what people meant about eMachines having proprietary parts but now I finally understand.
So after setting it all up without the power supply connected to the video card, it boots up and displays an expected notice; something like: "It has been detected that the video card doesn't have an adequate power supply, so its qualities have been restricted in order to prevent instabilities." (Paraphrasing, of course). So, I went to Radioshack to see if there were some extension for the power supply cables of some sort, but all I found were these male or female connectors that still have to be constructed and soldered. I come back and say 'screw it, I'm gonna see if my homies over at TFP can help me out with this somehow with some info I don't know' and open Firefox, only to see that it isn't detecting the web pages as if it were offline. I reset the modem and router to no avail. I rebooted in vain. Finally, I went to Network Connections only to find there ARE no network connections. I clicked on Network Connection Setup or something of the sort, and it said, "The system can not detect your network adapter." By this time I was heated. All I did was plug in my video card. I didn't touch the network adapter. The ethernet chord is fine, plugged into the ethernet port, which is lit green as it does when a chord is successfully connected, but it doesn't detect the network adapter. I don't know what to do. Am I going to have to reinstall windows? If so, I think I know how to do that, but I'd prefer not to. Does anyone here have any information whatsoever that could possibly help? I really want to see you all in-game. Hopefully it will be possible soon.

Does your power supply meet the wattage
minimum requirements on the video card box? what card did you get? Edit: I just reread your post what kind of power connectors does the video card take?

Hmm. Usually the video card will come with it's own attached cable that is double-sided. So you can plug one end into the power supply and the other end into the hard drive. I'm assuming this is not the case with your card? If not, what type of card is it?
One problem at a time would probably be the best way to handle this one.

Nice! Thank you! Now I know what to look for.
Even brighter is that, due to my laziness, I used System Restore, and my internet on MY computer (I was using my dad's computer to type the thread opener) is working just fine. Now I just wish I didn't have to wait for yet another item to be shipped to me. My ten-day trial is probably almost over already. But I guess patience is a virtue.
