is there any way to turn off the automatic thread subscription so that my email inbox isnt flooded with email from this site every time i talk on a thread?

Look above at the Quick Links menu and select Edit Options. Scroll down to Messaging and Notifications. Change the Default Thread Subscription Mode box to Do Not Subscribe.
