Acceptable e-mails
I wasn't sure what to search for on this subject. What I tried didn't pan out. I apologize if this has been addressed.
I have a friend who has been trying to join Tilted. They haven't had a paid e-mail address though they use AOL. They never activated that address. About a month ago they finally activated it in hopes that it would be acceptable for joining Tilted. They tried and still got rejected. I'm not sure what to tell them. They've tried about 4 different addresses over the past 4 or 5 months and nothing has worked. What kind of address can they use? What makes an acceptable address? I assumed a paid e-mail addres - not a free account like Yahoo - would be sufficient. Any suggestions?

AOL addresses are too easy to abuse and you can sign up for a new one with ease when you're a member. Try one from work, school, or somewhere unpopular.

He doesn't have a work e-mail and he doesn't have any other internet service provider except for AOL. In order for him to get an e-amil address he'd have to pay extra. UNLESS you know of an e-mail service provider that you WOULD accept that doesn't charge.

makes me think...
I could set it so it drops the email ban check if there is a name in the referral field.. but if the user fucks up, but he/she and the referral are GONE.

I could create an encrypted referral 'coupon code' for each member and you would have to give that to the people who you refer for them to enter when they register.
That would take a bit of effort though... it's doable.

I suspect this wouldn't happen more than once a week, and even that would be a high estimate. Is it worth the coding time? I guess you probably already know how many signup attempts get bounced per day.
Perhaps it could just be a PM from the Member to you or an admin saying "please create an account for my friend, who has the email address haxorrdude@aol.com, and give him the username haxorrdude"? I think this could work and still prevent the "Bones" problem.

Yes, right now I'd like you all to either be patient with me and how I delegate my free time or find your friends an email address they can use.

Oh I see. I thought you meant you'd capped the membership on TFP. You're just the leaving the membership requirements as they are for now. I'll see what I can do to help my friend. In the meantime if you find a free e-mail account that you do accept please let me know.

I just happened to register when Gmail was being accepted, guess I lucked out. I did try my Yahoo! account a few times and was confused as to why it was "banned." Finally my boyfriend (who is a member) suggested using my other e-mail (Gmail) and that did work. I understand that AOL, Hotmail, and Yahoo! accounts are a dime-a-dozen, but it was a bit of a pain because I do pay for my Yahoo! address and I rarely ever use my Gmail so if someone would e-mail me, I would have no clue.
