Your post count is not broken

We seem to have a lot of people convinced that the post counter is broken, and that the problem only applies to them. These people have not searched, or even scrolled down to find that the question has been asked repeatedly, hence the sticky note.

Posts that aren't significant don't count. Tilted Nonsense is a fun board where you can goof around. Being full of nonsense (who wouldve guessed,) posts in there do not count. If you've earned access to the Erogenous Zone, it's a fun place, but posts there do not really contribute to the community, so they don't count.

You may also notice that unlike many boards, your post count is not displayed to the left of each of your posts. This is because post count is irrelevant. After 250, you get an avatar. After 500 you get a custom title. Once you get there, it's not so exciting. After that you can stop worrying about numbers. Before that you should stop worrying about numbers. We're about quality, not quantity. That's why we have to review each individual member's posts before we grant access to the full members' sections. If you spam to get your count up, a friendly neighborhood admin will drop your postcount. It's just a number. It does not represent your success in life. It does not make your penis larger. It's just a number.

So stop worrying about your postcount. I don't even know what mine is. I rarely check, and only when someone asks me what it is. In the end, people will base their opinion of you on what you post, not how much.

This has been a public service announcement.

I want to add that you cannot earn either an avatar or a custom title without being promoted first. So even posting to achieve those goals is a lost cause. From now on, these benefits will only come to you after you've earned them by participating in the *discussion* forums as a civil adult.

Why not get rid of the post count - it would save a lot of time dicking around telling people not to worry about it, the only purpose it serves me is a reminder of how much time I've spent here when I should really be working

Post counts are useless IMO. Only temps ppl to post spam just to get a bigger post count. Well a message to you post-count-obsessive ppl: You can have a post count of 9999999, but your penis will still be small.

On the other hand, it gives the mods a chance to see who is adult enough to continue there membership by watching how people post. It gives them a member child-adult rating system.

I'm sensing quite a bit of penis envy and compensating.

I nearly made a seperate post regarding this question, because it's not an "omgz0r where is mah p0st count" post, but merely a question regarding vBulletin.

If I go to Search > Advanced Search and search for all posts by user 'JinnKai' I get

Showing results 1 to 18 of 18
Search took 0.05 seconds. Search: Posts Made By: JinnKai

However, if I go to my user profile at: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/member.php?userid=76815, it shows Total Posts: 37 (1.75 posts per day)

Furthermore, clicking the link in my profile labeled "Find all posts by JinnKai" returns Showing results 1 to 38 of 38 .

I honestly don't care what my post count is, as thats not why I'm here; but I am curious how three seemingly equal php queries return 3 different values? I guess 38 would be the true "count", whereas 18 is the amount that admins favored? What then, is the 37?

Of course, after this post all the numbers will change, but I doubt that they will all remain identical?

Any ideas?

Sincerely,

JiNN_kAi

all I know is from time to time I see another option open somewhere . . . which is nice.

I'm not sure if there are more options still available - if there are eventually I'll use them - if not no worries. I do know that I am constantly made aware of just how many fine people, folks worthy of true respect, who make part of their time here. Witness MrSelfDestruct - a fellow I only know very indirectly - but who has a voice I always listen to carefully. And he has a cool cat.

So mingle already.

I can help you with the difference between the 37 & 38. You have one post in the Tilted Nonsense section and that, as stated in the forum rules, does not count towards your official post count. That is why you were at 37 & not 38. As for the difference between the 18 & other numbers, I'm not sure. I tried it with my profile and lost about 65 posts by using the search feature at the top as opposed to checking through my profile. Maybe an administator can answer that one.

After a few minutes of befuddlement, I have discovered the answer. I tried with my own, but searches stop at 500 results, so I used you as teh test subject. You profile post count does not include posts in Nonsense. Your "find all posts" does exactly what you would expect it to do. While doing an advanced search, you probably left the "Show results as" option alone, meaning tha tit will only return threads in which you have posted. Switching to "Show results as" > "Posts" performs the same operation as the "find more posts by this user" link.

Now tha tI've sloved the mystery, I'm going to go have a Scooby Snack and get some sleep.

Having no post count showing is a great thing! I've been on many boards and members with extremely high post counts seem to have a superior attitude towards others with a lower post count. This also promotes the group mentality that ruins so many boards. A clicky, group dominated board is not condusive to an open exchange of ideas. As already mentioned its about quality not quantity.
