Journals

I made a new journal entry this morning. The title appears on the list of new journal entries, but it does not appear when you attempt to view the journal.

There's a problem with journals for some reason. Cynthetiq and Halx are working tirelessly trying to get everything back up and running smoothly but for some reason, journals aren't cooperating well.

I know it's not quite the same, but have you checked the blog feature?

Yes, I'm trying to contact the original author but not getting anywhere. I'm trying a couple other routes...

The only thing I see that is missing in Blogs that was in Journals was the count of how many times the post was read.

Whereas Blogs seems to be cleaner, and reading the comments is easier (especially since they aren't in inverse time order anymore), and has the option to subscribe so that you are notified of responses.

Is there a reason to maintain both?

I might be mistaken, but I think where journals enables private entries, blogs don't.

From what I understand, Blogs don't have privacy features. So you can't make private or friends-only entries.

Good point... I see an option to change public/private setting globally for a blog, but not individually.

We'd also have to find a way to transfer content so we don't erase someone's journal while they're gone for a few months.

Do the blog posts expire?

yes that's a sought after upgrade to the blogs, the ability to make some posts private or shared with friends. there is an update supposedly in the world from Jelsot, but dunno when it is due.

Thanks for the updates, folks!
I'll stick with the journals. I like having all of my entries in one place. I'd also like to look back at them in a couple of years.
If the blogs get to a point where I can import old entries from journals, I'll consider moving.

I found a solution and we've got to test it or we risk breaking something.

if this works journals will not be returning and the entries and comments will be migrated to the blogs.

Is it possible to have the blogs be private in the sense that any registered TFP user can read them, but no one else?

Perhaps treat them as a private forum that all registered users can view/access, but those doing Google searches can't?

Not at this time. There are many features that are being requested from the blogs and that is one of them, the ability to control privacy in some fashion, either by private or membership only, post by post. currently it's all or nothing for the whole blog.

Is there anything you need us to do?

Journals / Blogs, I couldn't care less; but migrating them is not something I will do manually. I'd still rather not lose them.

Do I need to have a blog started for migration? Does it matter if there are posts in it (will they merge)?

I haven't had the opportunity to test an import. I'm hoping to get some time later this week. It requires us backing this place up again and then setting up another mirror of it. So it's a bit time consuming.

I've hit a snag on some of the logistics of transferring journals. I've still not tested it, but came across something that is really a dealstopper than anything technical.

What about those people or those entries that are 100% private? We have no way of reconciling private entries from public ones.

The journals will probably stay as they are intact as they are for the moment. Once we're able to have some sort of privacy addressing such as buddies and me only entries, we can revisit the importing.

Sorry that it isn't to your satisfaction, I do hope that it does change in the near future, but until then I encourage you to see the changes that we could make, and have made.

I hope that you still join us there.
