Removing an old user

This will seem like an odd request, but I'd like you to purge the user RED from the database.

I'm not quite sure where RED exists, but he causes me trouble. The first thing I usually do when I start TFP for the day is to search for the updated threads in which I have posted, to see if I need to reply to any of those. So, I do a search for my username. If I type at just the wrong speed, the autosuggest feature on the usernames fills in RED instead of Redlemon, even after I've typed in my whole name.

If I search for places that RED has posted, I get nothing. I also can't find him if I search the Member's List. But, he keeps messing up my searches.

Does this make any sense?

I'm hesitant to delete a user, even if he's inactive for many years, but that's a hold onto the data kind of knee jerk answer.

A couple of suggestions for you. I subscribe to all threads that I post in automattically. This gives me an email every time a thread is updated. This email goes to an email address that is only for subscriptions of forums. People do not normally email me there, and I try to not originate emails there. over the years creep set in, and I do from time to time have email threads there.

Another is if set the subscribed to your spam folder so that you don't go crazy with hundreds of threads, you can go to your User CP and see immediately all the threads you have subscribe.

Autosuggest is kind of strange since there should be others that it suggests like red two, red zanell. Maybe it's autocomplete on your system that would be doing this to you?

I wonder what the other staff has to comment and suggestion as well.

I usually agree, but since I can't find the user in the Members List, it makes me think the user is some artifact, not a real registration.

I do that with some other forums, but I'm in too many threads here for that to be a workable method.

Hmmm, possible.

No, it isn't the Firefox autosuggest, it is clearly vBulletin-generated. And yes, I get a number of other suggestions, but for some reason it thinks RED is who I want to be. Again, that's after I've typed in the whole thing. I think the issue is that there's sometimes a small pause between the 'd' and the 'l', and my timing just lines up perfectly. Really, the autocompleter shouldn't fire unless I arrow-down to choose it, but that's not the way vBulleting chose to implement it, I guess.

Can an admin even find a record of RED?

Cynthetiq 03-31-2008 06:33 AM

yeah I found him. RED exists. Not an active user.

maybe we want you to be red. :P

Why doesn't he show up on the Members List? Is that just for people who have logged on to the most recent rebuild of the board, or last upgrade, or something?

No, if I had to truncate, I identify more with the Lemon. :D

Cynthetiq 03-31-2008 06:39 AM

I think the active members are 60 days or something like that in order to show up on memberlist.

sent you an email.

Thanks for the help!

You could also subscribe to threads, but when you do, set "Notification Type:" to "No email notification".

+1. That's what I do, I automatically subscribe to replied threads with no notification.
