Flood Control
 

It would be really nice the flood control was lowered (or not existant maybe for higher level members)

Its really aggravating to try to do a search, have it not bring back what you're looking for and have to wait another 40 seconds to try different key words

I hit that pretty frequently, especially when the first search doesn't give me the results I was expecting.

i suppose i'm not really a "higher level member" but that could be something to work towards...

Yeah, I find it slightly annoying at 40 seconds. I browse the "new posts" link and that effectively runs a search. So if I click on that, then read a short post (like a line or two), I have to wait before finding new posts again? Maybe half that would be effective? 20 seconds should accomplish the same thing with less hassle, que no?

it's something we all deal with, even the staff. conducting a search puts a massive load on our servers, and so to limit this, all members are restricted to the 40 second limit. you may not like it, but it's what's there for everyone. i don't see it changing any time soon.

Doing a search is the equivalent of reading a book through word by word, looking for a specific word or passage. It gets you what you want, but nobody else can use the book during that time, and reading through it again will double that downtime. The server can read through the database in a fraction of a second, but for that time, it's taking as much of the available memory and processing power as vbulletin will alow it to.
