Picky Grammar point

It should be "Ladies' Lounge", not 'Ladies Lounge'.

oldtimer 03-26-2004 01:21 PM

It's already been discussed... well... kind of.

Ladies(') Lounge

Just letting you know you're not alone. :)

rsl12 03-26-2004 01:25 PM

oh. ok.

alternatively, it could be named "Lady's Lounge", which might be more appealing.

Halx 03-26-2004 01:31 PM

you're assuming the the context of 'ladies' in the title infers ownership

SiN 03-26-2004 01:35 PM

Um, what else would it mean, Hal? :innocent:

:)

rsl12 03-26-2004 03:08 PM

Think of it this way: the male analog of "Ladies Lounge" is "Gentlemen Lounge", while the analog of "Ladies' Lounge" is "Gentlemen's Lounge".

Halx 03-30-2004 06:48 PM

and my point is that it's a *proper noun*

proper nouns don't need grammar

WarWagon 03-30-2004 07:05 PM

Ladies Lounge = A lounge of ladies. You tell 'em, Hal.

rsl12 04-05-2004 09:46 AM

to keep nitpicking:

why do you say "men's restroom", and not "men restroom" even if you are male and don't own the particular restroom in question?

Halx 04-06-2004 05:21 PM

i think the 'proper noun' defense should be enough

SecretMethod70 04-06-2004 05:31 PM

heh, technically, rsl is right. Ladies Lounge is gramatically a statement that ladies lounge around.

Nonetheless, I think there's a more important piont here: WHO CARES? :)

Couldn't agree more, why exactly are we debating about this? :)

Halx 04-06-2004 06:01 PM

i still feel all the arguements are moot because it's a proper noun

because we're procrastinating from doing real work :)

hal is right in a way--a proper noun can be spelled any way you want--if you want to call your bunny rabbit "Buh knee rabbbit" nobody can stop you.
