How about adding a classifieds section?
I didn't see this suggested, and I did a search with the keyword classifieds in titles for the last month and nothing came up.. so I thought I'd ask. This could have been discussed on previous version of TFP but I wasn't around then. Sorry if it was.
How about adding a classifieds forum? Buy/sell/trade? Something like that. I think it would be a good addition to TFP. |

The problem with a classifieds is that we don't want to be held responsible if a trade goes bad. Even if people agree to something saying that we aren't held responsible, that's just something we wouldn't want to have to worry about. Just imagine what a pain it would be if one board member screwed another on a trade. Yikes!

Can the site owner(s) really be held responsible, though? In an actual legal manner?
Just about every message board I go to has a classifieds forum with a sticky at the top saying they can't be held liable and caveat emptor and what not.. and I've never heard of a site admin getting in trouble for users screwing other users on a trade. I can understand the admins and mods not wanting to deal with complaints... but would they really have to? I'm not saying that you have to do it or really should have a classifieds forum.. but I was just wondering those few things in response to your reply. |

This is a place to discuss life dilemmas, who the Mavericks beat, why President Bush is shelling out billions to Iraq rather than helping his own nation first? These are few of the topics we discuss here at TFP. You have a "Insane" title so you should know what we stand for by now. If you want to buy, sell, or trade with ANY member here please ask them if they are willing to do it through EBAY. Stubborn people... This playing nice doesn't help you realize that all you simply have to do is go to a more secure, better transaction website such as EBAY, register an account, find people here willing to sell their items through EBAY and WA-LA! You have to understand you opened yourself wide open on that one. And another thing, I wouldn't trade, buy or sell with anyone here because it's a forum who knows who's lurking out there.

Well I'm still just wondering for my own knowledge.. can site admins be held responsible for bad transactions that take place in their classifieds?
I mean I've got an ebay account and all, but if I ever run my own site in the future that's something I'd like to know about.. how much liability a site owner has... |

simply put, yes. lawsuits today go after any party that was even remotely involved in whatever transpired, and considering we are the medium by which the transaction would be arranged, we'd have a major part in this. beyond that, we already deal with alot of shit on a daily basis, we're not gonna heap that on top of it. the whole proposition gets a resounding no.

yeah. i don't think we're going to be the medium through which you "meat" anyone. again, we're not some cheesy hook-up site, we're a discussion board.
