Rounding Out The Membership/ Making our Community more Diverse
Hello My Friends,
As many of you know. I haven’t been here too long, but I truly enjoy the forum. I hope to contribute to the community, because I’ve enjoyed so much by simply reading the first few days I was here. Again, thanks (especially Halx) for making the place what it is. As far as I know, there are no members that are Doctors. I was thinking how great it would be to have one (or more) here should medical advice arise. The “Ask the Loan Officer” thread is already a great example of this concept. Its terrific. I was thinking that perhaps there would be a way of rounding out our membership. Perhaps, it could be as simple as “hey, if you know any doctors that would be interested about TFP, please invite them to take a look” or something more sophisticated like a rewards program (added abilities for those who refer them). We already have so many people who are experts in their own field from teachers to System Admins. Perhaps, we could fill in areas that the general membership feel would be helpful? EDIT: Maginal legal advice anyone? There are lots of oportunities for different feilds. Last edited by Randerolf; 09-12-2003 at 05:49 PM.. |

There is no problem with letting people know about TFP and that their advice would be a great addition, but we have to be careful about what and who we believe due to liability issues. If I take some sort of homemade remdy because some guy on the internet who claims to be a doctor told us it would cure me, I could probably get away with suing TFP/Hal, even if there are disclaimers. If a professional does give advice, they would have to make sure that we know to get another opinion in person before doing anything.
We welcome anyone who wants to be a member here at TFP, please tell your friends about it and encourage them to join. |

msd hit that nail on the head... we are, by no means, to be used as a solid reference for anything more than social reasearch. i don't think it's really in our interests to start a "recruiting" program to help fill in the ranks, so to speak. each of our members are abeautiful and unique snowflake, and each has their own method of contribution, but it seems a little forced if we bring in a doctor simply for that purpose. it wouldn't be fair to them, they'd be talking shop on their free time, and noone should have to do that unless they do so of their own free will. if someone volunteers, great, but we have no expectations of our membership beyon being positive, contributing members, whatever that means to each individual.
