Journals
Journals are a great part of TFP, as far as I can tell, but they're kind of a pain in the ass to use. I could certainly use a "favorite journals" thingy (or at least more positions in the "recent journals" table), or a way to track the journals I've commented on . How about getting notifications about comments? It's tricky to keep track of it all, and it's too bad, because I enjoy it so much.

Schwan, thats a good idea. I'll see whats entailed in that and get back to you. I personally find it difficult to find a journal that is not on the top 10 list. Thanx for the suggestion.

Woops. Found this thread through a random search. I think this is a good idea, and wondering if no further replies meant you admins were too busy, or if it just wasn't feasible. I think it'd be a good addition.

I second that, I just read a few, and some I want to visit back without writing their names on paper...
Any info?

Continuing a discussion that has been taking place in the comments of my journal...
A few observations...

It would be nice to have a window similar to the "view new posts" window that works on journals
as an alternative, it would be useful to be able to subscribe to a particular journal
If comments had subject lines, it would be easier to refer to them
having a list of the comments on an entry that appears under the entry would be helpful. It might be a list of the comments' subject lines
I know enough about software design to know that it's a lot easier to come up with ideas than it is to actually implement them. So, please treat all of this as "stuff to throw into the mix" rather than "a list of requirements". In terms of parsimony, I would think that they would rank 3, 4, 2, 1. Thanks |

Thanks, duly noted and under consideration...
perhaps a perspective on prioritizing what gets accomplished in what time frames here would need to take into account the number of users of particular site features in relation to other more population-heavy processes. I'm a journal promoter, too - but an overview of how best to prioritize usability engineering is always in order in such a large community. some fascinating and demanding individual and group behaviors are also part of the whole enhancing usability issue. just adding some perspective - to further understanding. your suggestions are, in fact, shared by some other good journalists... thanks again. I'll keep us updated on these.

I looked around in all the obvious places (Newbie Board, User CP) for a FAQ on TFP journals, but I couldn't find any information on starting one. So, uh, how does one create a TFP journal?

yep, yep.
duly noted, since from way back... I gave up searching for comments in mine unless they are posted to the most current entries... I'm sort of slacking, though, about carrying the crusade forward. I think I perversely enjoy using a clunky interface. I'm so tech-ed out most of the time that a good old scratchy vinyl-type medium has a nice resonance, or something. but yeah...
