Like, Duh!

Remove the tag "spoiler" from spoiler tags ...

Instead of "... Spoiler: I do, in fact, love The_Jazz .."

just leave it at blank ... or include the word "Alert" for dramatic effect. Otherwise it's just dull ...

Punk.of.Ages 06-20-2010 12:03 AM

What about new people who don't know what a spoiler tag is?

What would be the difference between Alert: and Spoiler:, though?

Perhaps I'm missing something here...

Jetée 06-20-2010 01:35 PM

I don't think this will work.

spoilers   click to show

Cynthetiq 06-20-2010 02:07 PM

no but there is something that does something similar to what Jet posted. It pops up the test into a collapsing window.

i have always thought about changing it, but just haven't ever gotten to even try it out.

Jetée 06-20-2010 02:15 PM

I do think it's an idea, neither good or nor bad, but perhaps for convenience's and old-timers members' sake, it works.

If anything, though, it will sure help in making the Exquisite corpse collaboration much more enjoyable and streamlined, without that ever-present "Spoiler" interruptor.

To expand upon this, and actually ask for something I've meaning to for the better of a year now, I'll say is there any way we could add the [spoiler] tag, and turn it into a clickable button on the expanded text editor box? Something simple: a button that says 'spoiler' on it, and does the ordinary function of what encapsulating a block of text inside the [spoiler] brackets would do.

(And so long as I'm here talking about buttons, I've also been wondering what exactly the 'Digg' button does, but I have not yet figured out how to use it.)

Cynthetiq 06-20-2010 02:26 PM

Yes I can easily replace the digg button with the spoiler button. I've used up all my development time this weekend, so I'll put it on the list and get to it one of these days.

Spoiler

Would this simple idea of reducing its size be less a distraction?

Plan9 06-20-2010 04:57 PM

Xerxys, I think this is a case of looking for a problem to solve before one actually exists. Has anybody complained? And no, you don't count.

...

Huh... I was hoping TFP would implement spoiler title edits so I can be all "NEWSFLASH!" like a real pretentious prick. That seems to be popular.

finally figured out what the Digg button did.

I wish Jetee was my real father.

Well, we could do the "throw some dancing bear .GIFs into a boring .PTT" trick.

TFP is a discussion forum. It has all the visual appeal of... uh... Norton Desktop.

The less tricky the interface, the more straightforward the format... the better.

I'm sorry you're bored. Do you want it to look more like this site?

Xerxys 06-20-2010 09:05 PM

Cromps, I wanted them to add the word "alert after spoiler, y'know, like when someone yells, "Spoiler Alert!" with an exclamation mark. Not to have some bland colon that, in my mind, invokes the sound of the Australian dude who narrates animal kingdom escapades of lions in a safari; turning a garish mauling down of deer into a boring history subject!

and also,

CRIKEY.

...

Heh. Sorry.

But, yeah, I get your clever Animal-Planet/Nat-Geo-at-3-AM point.

...even if you are coppin' a serious 'tude in this thread, ya punk.
