Sticky in Tilted Life
I know this has been suggested and actually in practice before (I think I remember it as a separate section, but I took a long break from this place), but could we make a sticky post in Tilted life about working out? I know it wouldn't get enough traffic to have it's separate forum, but maybe a sticky note (kind of like the birthday thread in members playground) that all of I'm fat help me/where should I work out/trying to run threads go too.
Reason I say this is that I wanted to necro a great thread on running that The_Jazz commented on with some great tips. When I started getting deeper into the thread I realized that it became an argument with members about his attitude with a newer member. I love the information he gave but it also has bad juju in it, so I don't want to necro it. I didn't want to start a new thread when a thread with such great information in it already existed. So the question is (besides the question of the sticky), to necro or not to necro? Should I just threadjack an already existing post (like squeeeb's post about working out) or just ask the same question in a slightly different way in a new topic? I guess I could just pay The_Jazz to be my personal trainer too, that could work. |

I think designating a forum for workout stuff is a good idea, and Life is as good a place as any. If you'd like to try to work up an OP for it, have at it. We could also copy stuff from other threads into it if that helps. BTW - which thread are you talking about? I looked quickly and didn't find anything on the first page of results that really fits.

That'd be awesome if we had a Sticky that was a cumulative repository for such threads as the "around the world" thread, "the pushups thread", the "biking thread", the "eating healthy" threads, and all those other helpful resources for a better and fit life.
Good luck with that, whomsoever is taking on this task! (You'll see by the end of the of this, it'll probably be me... I'm a sucker for tying up loose ends, for little to no gratitude received. )

Didn't we just get rid of the health and fitness forum?
I believed it was merged with tilted life due to low traffic. Not that I think that in itself is a good reason, but it's not my decision to make. I think the questions are unique enough to merit their own forum, kinda the way found on the net was a unique subset of general. Even though there isn't a lot of discussion going on there, it gets it's own forum. /bring back TFP Health and Fitness The problem with working out is you can at best give general guidelines when you're trying to address a large group of people. For example if someone asks how much water they should be drinking when they work out, a neat statistical average is about a cup an hour for vigorous exercise. Terribly impractical for many people - like me, I'm a bit larger than average and sweat profusely, I need more water than that, so while the advice is good, it's not good for me. Many health and fitness questions fall into this category. The main problem, I thought, with health and fitness was all the 'help I'm bleeding from my eyeballs what should I do?' threads. They inevitably fill with speculation and the quite sensible 'go see a doctor' replies. Maybe a "Tilted Gymnasium" would be cool... /ramble off

It just seems there are alot of people on TFP with GREAT weight loss/running/cardio/weight lifting/freestyle fucking advice that needs one place. I know we have done this before but not a whole form. Like the shaving thread or any of the merged threads. Maybe two. I figure out some stuff tomorrow. EDIT: My lack of sleep the last few days has effected my brain. The_Jazz was NOT the person in question of attitude, it was Martian, my bad. Both had good advice in the thread tho. Man, I need sleep.

Of course. We have people watching your house, and our assault team can deploy within seconds.
Oh, one more thing. If you see a glint in a tree, just ignore it. ---------- Post added at 11:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:27 AM ---------- Of course. But to get to the topic at hand: I think it would be pretty cool because I like working out, but I wonder how many people would actually give a shit.

Oh - hey, I just remembered about this one. Do you guys still want a sticky for athletics/fitness?

Seeing as how someone has recently suggested a forum for it in another thread, I think a sticky is the least we can offer. Let's do it.
Would you like to start a new one that will be stickied? Woud you like me to merge a bunch of older fitness-type threads into the new-thread sticky as well? If so, it'd be good for those interested to compile a list of a few of their favorite fitness-type threads.

Maybe rather than merging a bunch of old threads (I never liked merging threads), we could have the people that want the sticky just start a health and fitness post with their goals in mind, then if it takes off and becomes sticky-worthy we can go from there.
I think the main way to go would just be a collection of resources, websites, books, advice, magazines, etc. As people post suggestions get added to the first post. There are other threads that fit this model. See: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/tilted-...ding-list.html http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/tilted-...re-thread.html In that vein, I have some suggestions if someone wants to get the thread started Books: Websites: Men's Health Fitness Men's Health Nutrition Runner's World Nutrition Data

Hektore: that is what I originally proposed.
Someone makes a thread entitled "Tilted Fitness" or other, and obtains help via fellow members about what threads to include in the listing, and provides linkings to them. * link to biking thread * link to eating healthy thread * link to sleeping tips * link to bench-pressing thread (not sure if this exist, just making the point)

I realize, I was just pointing out that in could/should include outside resources as well.
I can contribute, I'm just not going to maintain it, I don't have the follow-through for something like that.
