Birthdays?
was there a memo I missed somewhere? Have we stopped acknowledging birthdays? The last birthday thread I see is back in Feb and I know there have been some birthdays since then?
|
Since Feb. more of us less popular (i.e. older) tfpers have had Birthday's that the Top Level Muckity Mucks don't want to waste time acknowledging.
It's like high school, remember?? /sarcasm added for free/ |
I usually just leave a message on the user profile but for some others are invisible to me so it doesn't show at the bottom panel in the home/index screen.

Actually, that's not it at all.
We rely on members to start birthday threads. If members don't start one for them, it won't happen. Staff has moved on to writing personalized birthday PMs. |
*** edited.... my question has been answered and just because I dont like the answer doesnt mean I should lower myself to be snarky

I know some folks don't like people mentioning their BD. I've had folks tell me in chat they prefer it pass without fanfare. After hearing that a couple times I started sending out PM's to people I know. If I see a thread I'll add my congrats. I view it as kind of a mine field. If some folks don't want the attention drawn to it and other do...

used to be that in "members playground," if someone wanted to give you a birthday shout, he/she did.
no popularity, just a neighborly shout... |
I've never started a birthday thread. I rarely scroll down that far. With the changes in staff personnel, we seem to have gotten more of us who start at TFP by hitting the "New Posts" link first - seriously, we had a thread on that in mod-land recently. So a lot of us don't even look that far down the board.
When I look at who starts birthday threads, it looks like more non-staff starts them historically - there are more of you after all. Sorry if that hurts any feelings, but for whatever reason, this is group-think, not any sort of staff memo that we've put out. I like birthday threads since I never know when someone's annual rotation around the sun is due to be noted and like to send those acknowledgements. The staffers that do notice such things without outside prompts thought it would be better to send personalized notes since it seems much more polite and special that way - I agree. So does Ms. Manners, for that matter. But if this is a big deal, then YOU folks start stepping up and restart the habit. You're all adults. You don't need the staff to do every little thing for you. Lord knows I wipe enough asses in my house already - two kids in diapers, after all - so I don't need to come here to treat you all like babies too. Sorry if that's snarky, but if this is important to the community, how about the community handle it for a change? You know, to do the very least that you all could do? |
I would like to thank the one person that took the time to message me and reply to this in a non snarky way... all I did was ask if I'd missed something on not starting bday threads anymore, because there are at least 12 people in the last month that didnt have one. I dont see where I said it was the staff's sole responsibility to do it
