History section in the academy
Many people have an interest in historical events, re-appraisals of history, simple laying out of the 'facts' and opinions, etc.
Many of these are political, many scientific, many military, philosophical, music, etc, etc, etc... and there are other groups to deal with those things. Now, i'm not suggesting that EVERY new thread relating to a past event be placed in "History" topic(which would be all events by the time that anyone posted them), but when it comes to posting information about an historical group of people, for example: The Levellers These are an important group in the history of every English speaking nation, but where should they realistically belong? Politics? perhaps. Philosophy? perhaps. General? not really. If what you're trying to do is raise consciousness and point out interesting events and characters of history, without looking at the 'rights' and 'wrongs' so much as opinions about the truth surrounding events, what actually happened, protagonists and their characters - which i admit is difficult to separate from politics, religion, philosopy, etc at times, but different it undeniably is - then where, realistically, could/should such items as: Lenin in Helsinki 'Jesus of Nazareth' real person or construct of religious ideology? Helen of Troy, real person or personification of myth? Formation of the first cooperatives/companies/trade unions/parliaments/republics/etc. Timelines of ideas (Rise/fall of capitalism, 'communism' (bias presented in quotes), liberty, oligarchies, socialism, monarchies, etc ) Rise of the X empire Fall of the X empire The X trade in Y era - slaves, opium, gun, obsidian, flint, etc... in medieval, regency, ancient, pre-historic, etc... The roots of civilisations What drove people to the _first_ cities I know I very much enjoy looking at historic events, and am quite capable of searching out new and interesting ideas, theories and facts surrounding both well known and obscure points from the past, but i feel it would be interesting to present and contrast views of history in a dedicated area solely for the dispassionate presentation of verifiable material for the purposes of cross-pollenation of ideas, education and the challenging and provoking of thought. This could then spawn threads on politics, philosophy, sexuality, morality, women's issues, general interest, humour, porn!, etc, etc, etc... for discussion of related issues. Even google wizards can have their eyes opened. (me: google wizard 2nd class *basks in smugness*) Nothing stimulates like being exposed to information without opinion and being asked to form your own view, dig around in support/detraction and present the basis for your opinion on such topics. History can be described as very much subjective and that may detract/add! to the topic. Thank you for your attention.

Thank you for your input.
We're currently debating decreasing the amount of forums and this sounds like increasing them. There are a couple of other ideas that seem to make sense like possibly using the tags that are in the TB to help identify what the posts are related to. A consideration for us to think about. Thanks!

Maybe a single forum system, or 1 non-porno/1 porno forum, with TB ultra-discrete style tagging would work?
Guides for styles of post and discourse which fit under which tags or groups of tags? Hmm, tag based forum. great idea, especially if it could be easily and clearly filterable (ooh, web 2.0, quick, before the bubble bursts...) with persistent states across sessions... something along the lines of how many (porny) torrent sites allow you to select and deselect the types of torrents you want to see - empornium, pure t'n'a, etc. I'm sorry, everything I say and do seems to relate to porn. *curses job*
