Too much hype about recent contests?

Is anyone else tired of, after every GOOD game, announcers and commentators waxing poetic about it being "the greatest" or "one of the greatest" games, performances, contests, whatever?

Tonight I'm sitting here listening to people say it (the Texas victory over USC) could be the greatest college football game of all time, Vince Young's performance might be the best by a QB of all time, blah blah blah. The game tonight was awesome. Vince Young showed up in a major, MAJOR way, but is it REALLY necessary to qualify so many recent contests as among the classics of all time?

I was actually rooting for Texas, but the immediate comments about the win are a bit much. I'm a DIE-HARD White Sox fan, but found the immediate comments about their starting pitching dominating like none other had in history was a bit overboard IMO. Just seems like after every "good" performance nowadays people want to elevate it to "all time" status.

To his credit, Vince did break the all time Rose Bowl record for all purpose yards.

I know......and his performance WAS phenonemal. I'm not denying that. I just can't stand when no time has passed to put things in historical perspective. I'm in my mid/late 20's and have probably seen dozens of "greatest performances of all time" in 3-4 sports. :o

I totally agree with you. The media overhyped everything about the game. Anyone notice how Texas didn't even get much respect after their win? On ESPN, the headlines were about "How USC got upset!" and not how Longhorns brought home the national championship. Which brings me to another question, why was it really an upset? It was the #1 and #2 teams in the nation. Both undefeated.
