Vince Young is a god.
What a game, I was definitely cheering for the Trojans but oddly enough I am not that disappointed after such a great game, a game for the ages. Congrats to the 'Horns and to the state of Texas.

![]() Awesome game on all sides. Leinert, Reggie, Vince, White, they are all stars and very deserving of walking with their heads up high. I am very glad that I made it a point to watch this. ![]()

I've been pulling for Texas for the last couple of years, I think this has something to do with The_Dude's old posts in any CFB thread, but anyway...
I think that was the most incredible college football game I have ever seen. The stakes were huge the players stepped up, Vince had an absolutely amazing game, LenDale White probably propelled himself into the Top 10. I'm so glad that this game wasn't a blowout, and went to the last play in an almost bases-loaded-bottom-of-the-ninth situation a 4th and 5 on the 10. It's been an exciting bowl season and that just perfectly capped it off. Hook'em Horns!

I wonder if White isn't going to be as good or better than Bush in the long run, especially since he hasn't had the wear and tear from being the primary ball carrier......

i'm not sure why USC tried to pass on 2nd down with 2 minutes left.
it was weird that the officials didn't review the missed TD call. i don't know if it would have made much of a difference, though. it's a little late to be wound up so much...that game was pretty intense. |

I kind of disagree with the call to go for it on 4th at the end for USC too...........but all in all I think there was some questionable calls on both sides, and it was just a great game to watch.

Exciting game to watch, Young played spectacular throughout. Great comeback down the stretch, Young was unstoppable.
After watching last night's and tonight's games, I have to mention, watching college football bowl games still doesn't compare to the NFL playoffs. The main reason is poor kicking. When in a NFL playoff game have you seen a missed extra point, or several makeable game winning field goals missed like you saw last night. Then tonight, what about Texas' kicker missing an extra point and a 31-yard field goal. Hardly the distance of 47 yards that Buffalo Bill's Scott Norwood missed in the Super Bowl years back. Just the fact that kickers aren't good in college football can make a great college game finish poorly. |

I think it's a double whammy, in college it's harder to sign kickers and once you do have one you only get him for 4 years. Plus they have to kick from the wider hash marks, which makes it harder for young and inexperienced kickers.
Hey even Jason Elam who has been a rock for Denver missed an extra point a while ago.

Yeah no doubt.... one of the best games that I personally have ever seen played. Just amazing. I don't particularly like either team but I was just enthralled the entire way through.
And yes, Vince Young absolutely is astounding. Kudos to that man.

Outstanding Bowl Season! I agree with the kicking game assessment - lousy. The NFL get the best of the best and they get paid to do what they do. Props to Texas and USC for putting on a great show. I was pulling for Texas (tough for a Sooner).
How many of the Juniors will be back next year? I think Bush and Young are NFL bound. Hard to imagine they could improve their NFL position by stayng around. LenDale White is likely in the same boat. To me he was the star of the evening for SC as Texas never touched him (with 2 notable exceptions) until he was 5 yards down the field. The DUDE was referred to above. His team finally gets it done and he is absent! If you are out there Congrats!!

My reasoning is more that, had he been on the field (even as a slot rec. or something), Texas would've had to dedicate 1-2 defenders to him. ![]()

Best ..... Rose Bowl..... EVER! In fact, most of the bowls were really exciting this year. Plus, there weren't very many flags in the RB to screw up the action.
I haven't noticed anybody else saying how fast the Texas secondary must be. They chased Reggie down from behind a few times. Not the easiest job in the world. I'm also trying to figure out if Young is THAT good, or if his O-line is hell on wheels.

I think we are going to see some guys from both of those O-lines appear in the NFL. And, as you mentioned, props to the Texas defense (linebackers and defensive backs especially) for their team speed. I don't think Reggie had been denied the turn around the corner on end-arounds more times in any game this year.

Excellent game. I'm soooo glad that Texas won.... I've become soooooo sick of hearing about USC possibly being the best college team ever, and tired of hearing about Leinert and Bush. They had a great run but Texas was just a little bit better. Great game though, what a pleasure.

It was definately one of the best games I have ever seen. Untill this year, and maby up untill the championship game, I thought that vince young would not be able to play in the NFL. After this year, I would have to say he should end up being a very good NFL QB. His passing improved so much from last year to this year, it was amazing.

The only thing that I think is a bit deceiving about that is how wide open his receivers were. I think it's a matter of route-running and game-planning every bit as much as his accuracy. Don't get me wrong, he deserves credit for those completions. However, in the NFL he is not going to have receivers that open, just standing in space. I saw lots of routes run the other night where the receiver was able to run his route, stop, be wide WIDE open, and VY deliver a pass to a non-moving target w/o a defender within 3-4 yards. That simply won't happen in the NFL even a fraction as often. Not stealing his thunder, just an observation. ![]()

His delivery is a bit "low" too. It almost looks sidearmed or three-quarters instead of straight overhead. With quicker, bigger lineman in the NFL, I think he'd be well served to adjust his delivery a bit.

All true. His recievers were wide open in this game, but in other games, like the ohio state game, he did put some nice passes in to covered recievers. I wouldn't change his release though, he does throw a little side arm sometimes but at 6'5", he will be alright. The best thing to do with VY, is to just let him relax and do his thing as Mack Brown did this year.
