College BB 2006

So I didn't see any thread for this years college basketball..any other fans? I'm a fan of the University of Arizona Wildcats..just waiting for the game to start in about an hour. Paid an arm and leg for season tickets this year so I can't wait for the season to get rolling! I had never been to any games before this year always had to watch them on tv.. so see how things go..they looked bad in Maui yesterday but escaped with a win uconn up next

Fear the turtle...

maximusveritas 11-22-2005 08:09 PM

My Razorbacks are gonna take on your guys tomorrow, djtestudo. Should be a good game, but I'm not gonna make any predictions at this point. We have the potential to be really good, but we're not playing that way right now.

tspikes51 11-23-2005 12:09 AM

I go to that one other Wildcat school... you know, the one with more SEC championships than anyone. Whose first practice of the season was nationally televised. Whose fans suck. I hate UK fans, they can't take a loss (Kentucky never gets beat, the refs always screw them). I pay $7k in tuition every year, and I can't even get tickets (single game, single seat) unless I sit in the old basketball stadium with 7,000 students and be lucky enough to have my number drawn (they pretty much give away football tickets though). I did think we looked pretty good, but thru 2 games I'm not too sure now...

Eweser 11-23-2005 08:00 AM

Hubby graduated from Oklahoma State, so we're Cowboy fans. They're young but talented this year.

How about that Gonzaga/Michigan St. game?

Glory's Sun 11-23-2005 09:07 AM

You guys may as well just go ahead and give the title to Duke. Once they destroy Texas and prove how good they are.. everyone else will cower in fear.

Ok so it won't be that drastic but they are going to be might tough this year.

Best game I've seen in a long time--maybe the Kentucky-Duke game that Laettner won is in that area.

joeyaz 11-23-2005 01:50 PM

Zags/MSU one of the best games I've seen in a long time also..I was fearing that it would go into a 4th OT because I was waiting for AZ game to start ..that didn't turn out too well.. lol

That's what they say every year before they lose at least once to Maryland :D

maximusveritas, sounds like it was a pretty good game, even if I didn't get to see it.

Duke is very tough every year, that is nothing new. They have one of the top recruiting classes each year, which makes it easy for them to recover when a player leaves early for the NBA. When it comes to tournament time, they do well, but they underachieve. They have one NCAA championship in the last 13 years; they are like the Atlanta Braves of college basketball. Great regular seasons, respectable playoff results, but not enough championship glory to match their dominance.

Damn straight. On paper there isn't a better team in the nation - not even close. That being said it's going to take Dock actually hitting some open 3's when they're mugging JJ and subtle things like that. Lee needs to stop sucking ass. And of course injuries are always crucial too, let's hope Nelson isn't down for too long.

At least in championship year's past it's always about them having a solid PG play, a la Hurley and J Williams...and Paulus is the real deal folks.

Here's to 30-something and 0!

Duke is a very beatable team right now.

They are a slow-starting team, and if you can defend Redick and Williams there really isn't another player that scares you.

Paulus proved he's the real deal. He's already getting major attention on his drives. That opens up Williams or Dockery (who needs to hit more open shots). Duke played some tough games this week but they proved one thing... they have the tenacity and heart to finish the game. They aren't dominate like the Hurley Latenner teams but they will be tough. I think this year they will at least make it to the Final Four. Even if they don't... it will be enough for me to watch them crush Carolina each time they play.

djtestudo 11-26-2005 11:12 AM

Well, Carolina isn't going to be that good this year.

Now, a team like Maryland with a couple guards who can defend and about 40 big men will give them a lot of trouble.

Maryland will give them trouble. Memphis proved that. However, with the 3 guard lineup and hopefully a recovered Nelson... I think Duke will topple Maryland in a close game.

It'll be a Hell of an Acc Championship game :D

gonadman 11-26-2005 01:45 PM

Looking forward to watching Big East also this year. I'm a Villanova diehard. They lost preseason Big East player of the year Sumpter to injury but still should be good enough to take UConn in the Big East Championship.

alec 11-26-2005 02:52 PM

Did anyone see the Memphis/Duke game last night? Really good. I like Memphis and their thugged out team.

As far as my team, I'm a UVA grad so we're in somewhat of a rebuilding year since we got rid of Pete Gillen (though we did have 2 strong wins already). We're playing AZ tommorow night (watch out jbleed!), who we beat last year at home but who knows what will happen this year. But in general I'm looking to another strong ACC year!

Sure this is off-topic...

But don't you think it'd be really easy to get into DJ's head, or is it just me? :D

Why is that?

Seems like any kind of 'your daddy' or blow jokes or what have you could be incorporated into it...although I'm sure he's all heard it before.

Anyway - BC, at Miami, at Duke, then Wake?? Hella tough schedule to open the ACC seaon - they need to go 2-2 in that stretch...although it seems tough.

You'll have to get through Rondo and the rest of the UK Cats first.

Sorry Alec yes I remember that beating we got from Virginia last year..I was pretty worried in the first half of yesterdays game against UVA glad we turned it around in the second ;)

*backs away slowly from the crazy person*

tspikes51 12-04-2005 10:07 PM

OK, Duke/VATech. Incredible. 'Nuff said.

On the UK/UNC game: good God, that was awful. We have no inside game whatsoever, and we couldn't get rebounds worth a damn. It's pretty bad when your sophomore 6'1" PG is your team's leading rebounder and biggest inside force. I think we may slip out of the top 25.

It's gonna be interesting to see how this whole Morris deal turns out...

Glory's Sun 12-05-2005 06:59 AM

Carolina is better than I thought.. which sucks. I wanted them to suck so completely bad that they gave up on their whole program forever. *sigh*

It's so good to see Dockery finally do what he's supposed to do. He hit some huge three's and then that shot.. can anyone say Jeff Capel?? :D :D

Wtf is up with JJ? He's forcing shots and not being his usual team player self. He must be getting frustrated with all the attention and lack of shots he's getting. It was good to see Willams rebound after his performance at Indiana. Please oh please Nelson hurry and get better.

Some great games so far... this season is gonna be great.

TitleFight 01-01-2006 03:48 PM

So yeah, check this out:

http://members.cox.net/tscollins12/duketics.jpg

In no way am I looking past Bucknell tomorrow, but I'm pretty pumped about getting these tickets. If I remember right WF and Chris Paul beat Duke last year at home, so I'm stoked about the revenge factor.

Did anyone catch that 'Zona - Washington game yesterday? Ho-ly SHIT!

Glory's Sun 01-04-2006 01:22 PM

Yeah.. Duke should get some sweet revenge. I just wish the guy I knew who has season tickets to Duke would throw me a couple. Stingy bastard!! *shake fist*

My girl is a Carolina fan

can't wait till she looses the bet(s) ;)

tspikes51 01-04-2006 11:02 PM

Dammit, I scored a ticket for UK v. Louisville but didn't get to go...

Anyways, Kentucky just barely slipped past a mediocre team. Morris can't come sooner for us (even though I don't think he should be allowed to return).

time to revive this thread.

Duke Vs. Carolina. --- What a game! I thought Duke had them and Carolina came back and held a lead for a while. Duke wasn't shooting well and Carolina was playing beyond their means.. it made for a great game. I can't wait for the next one in March.

The_Jazz 02-08-2006 09:32 AM

Duke should have still been reeling over their loss to FSU, but the guys in stripes made sure that didn't happen.

The interesting thing for me is that the best team in the SEC East might not be Florida or Kentucky but Tennessee. They played pretty well against KY last night.

Last night was a shitty night on ESPN for me... Kentucky and UNC both fucking up at the last minute (because for us the next best thing to a UK win is a Duke loss, we're still angry about the whole Christian Laettner thing). I will say that UK is an average team at best this year, and if things don't look better next year, Tubby Smith might as well start looking for a new job. I will also give JJ Redick props for being the most amazing shooter in the game and I hope he beats every team scoring record.

Glory's Sun 02-08-2006 10:29 AM

I'm a Duke fan.. and I even admit that the refs fucked up in the FSU game. Tennessee is pretty impressive this year. I don't think they'll do much in the big tourney but to come out of nowhere is respectable.

As far as JJ goes, I love the kid. He's worked so hard to get where he is and he's just pure. However, I don't want him to beat Dawkins' record for some reason. I'm sure Johnny doesn't care but I'd like for him to keep it.

I don't think the Duke/UNC game would have been so close if McRoberts and Williams hadn't been in foul trouble. Add that to the fact that Duke didn't make a fg in about (total) 10 mins+ and you have the reason it was such a close game. I don't really care if it's a one point win or a blowout.. as long as Duke wins :D

Given that Tennessee has never made it past the second round, I think that you're right. Pearl has done some amazing things with that team, and it really looks like his players are having fun which is something I haven't seen at that level in a while.

dragon2fire 02-09-2006 12:35 AM

Big Ten will break its own record and send eight to the tourny

The_Jazz 02-09-2006 06:21 AM

Which eight? Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, Ohio State and Michigan will all probably make it. I'd put Wisconsin and Indiana on the bubble. Minnesota, Penn State, Northwestern, and Purdue, well, probably not unless one of them wins the conference tournament. Am I missing something?

Glory's Sun 02-09-2006 06:47 AM

eight?? I don't see eight going from the Big 10..but with the ACC down as a whole this year anything is possible.
