NASCAR champion suspended...

Here's the link: http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/5078870

Here's the story:

Quote:
AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Kurt Busch was suspended by his team Sunday for the last two races of the NASCAR season after police cited the reigning Nextel Cup champion for reckless driving.

Busch will be replaced in Sunday's race at Phoenix International Raceway by Kenny Wallace. He also will miss next week's Ford 400 in Homestead, Fla.

"It's the last straw for Roush Racing," said Geoff Smith, president of Roush Racing. "We're officially retiring as Kurt Busch's apologists effective today."

When asked about Busch's arrest and confrontation with police, team owner Jack Roush said it was no longer his problem.

Busch has a history of trouble with the sport's sanctioning organization for run-ins on and off the track with drivers and NASCAR officials.

The latest episode came Friday night when he was stopped near the track after trying to avoid another car and running a stop sign, police said. The police report said the officer who stopped Busch smelled alcohol on the driver's breath, although Busch was not cited for that. A breath test was not conclusive because the device failed.

Smith said Busch, who is under contract to the Roush team through the end of the season, will not be allowed to drive for anyone else in 2005. "He would have to get permission and we would be very reluctant to give it," Smith said. "It's very offensive to us that he chose to take on the arresting officer the way he did verbally. And then the fact there was alcohol, even in the smallest way, involved."

Busch is eighth in points this season and qualified 17th for Sunday's race. The driver already had been given his release from Roush Racing and plans to join Penske Racing South next season, taking over the No. 2 Dodge from retiring Rusty Wallace.
Personally, I don't like Kurt, think he's an idiot, and don't particularly like who he drives for. This gives me a little more respect for Jack Roush, as he's the one who did the suspension, not NASCAR. Hopefully, it's the beginning of the end for this guy.

Your turn...

I agree with you. Busch is an arrogant punk, and the way he treated the officer who stopped him (according to other articles I've read on it) reflects that. Especially with Busch leaving Rousch the way he is, I think it was the right call.

Good for Jack Rousch to step up the way he did. Penske has sure got to be thinking long and hard about his choice now. Past champ or not, this ass-hat isn't qualified to carry Rusty Wallace's sweat socks.

On a lighter note, Busch has to be licking his chops over all that free Miller Lite.....

Penske was on today and was asked if it would effect his relationship with Busch at all. He said "Nope, not at all." I guess he figures it will have blown over by next year.

It would have to cause some concern for the Miller execs I would think. Since they do need to at least convey an image of responsible drinking and being pulled over for drunk driving doesn't exactly convey that. Personally I can't stand him. A couple of buddies of mine were crew members for a Southwest Tour team back when Busch was running SW tour, and they have a number of stories about what a prick Busch was even back then. I don't think Roush would have suspended him if he hadn't made the decision to leave Roush, I think this is more of a fuck you to Busch than anything else.

Well, he must know if there's any kind of contract clause concerning driver conduct and where they'll be allocating their money, because I'm sure the Miller people have the final say on who drives that car.

Maybe it'll be a good smack upside Busch's head to humble him a bit..........................though sadly, I doubt it.

Best news I'vd seen in a long time, it made my weekend!
The kid's a dick on the track....no reason to think he wouldn't be off it, it was just a matter of time.
The news has reported that, among his mouthing off to the arresting officers, he was yelling, 'Do you KNOW who I am?' Uh, yea, you're the kid that only gets cheers when he crashes.....
Shame that breathalyzer failed on the second try, he obviously got a high enough reading, but without that back-up there wasn't much they could do, plus they'd gotten other citations on him. But had he gotten a DUI in addition, I doubt Penske would have the same response.
The irony? Baby Brudder winning! Let's hope he's taken after another side of the family, personality-wise.

Baby brother walked out of the winners press conference when he characterized most of what the media said about his brother being false. A reporter asked him what specifically the media has reported that is false and Kyle snapped, stating the question was "really inappropriate" and walked out. I don't see what is so inappropriate about that question. Ugh, I can't stand either one of them they are both scum.

If Busch had been under contract for next year and/or been in a position to still win the title, Roush NEVER would have suspended him. This was Roush's chance to get him back for leaving the team. Go #2 in 2006.
