Mailman delivers down south
Karl Malone has hinted that he would like to join the Dallas Mavericks next season to continue his chase of a title and Kareem Abdul Jabaar's scoring record.
The Mailman has said that he wants to play at least 2 more seasons. - - - - Although he's still very productive and competitive, how much money would you invest in a player who will turn 40 this summer? He's not going to come cheap, so wouldn't you rather invest that money in someone like Elton Brand or Jermaine O'Neal??? |

I would of course sign him to a 2 year deal worth a good chunk of change only if players such as Brand and Oneal were not available. Malone still is putting up solid numbers, but he has favored the mid range jumper a lot more lately in his career. Dallas has enough shooters, but I suppose having Malone spot up while Nash runs the base line frantically could be prodcutive.
Personally I would go after Oneal. Even though Brand blocks shots and rebounds like a big man, I think the Mavs could use the more dominanting presence of Oneal. |

I think there are good aspects about staying with the jazz and going to the mavs. Which is why he has to make a very, very hard choice:
Scoring Title: If he really wants this he should stay in Utah. If he goes to Dallas he'd probably be third-string. I'm trying to say he'd have a beter chance to score in dallas but he'd have more time to score in utah. Championship: Im not going to say if he wants this he should stay in Utah it is obvious the Mavs are going to get better every year, but i dont think he wants to spit in his teammates or the jazz's fans's faces. I think he should end his career in a jazz's uniform.

I think Malone is still good enough to play, but if John Stockton has played his last game, it seems very appropriate that Malone would retire...if only for them to go into the Hall of Fame together.
I'm not saying that WILL happen, I'm just being nostalgic. The same way I was disappointed when Magic Johnson came out of retirement, spoiling my Larry Bird/Magic double dip at the Hall. If Malone wants the championship, Dallas is a good fit, however if he wants the scoring title, he might have to wait with Dirk and Finley sharing the ball.

Dallas for a championship?
Maybe a better chance, but with O'Neal looking to go to the spurs, who will have post-david robinson room under the cap, that team will be awesome. And you can't forget the Lakers. I just think we saw Dallas's best effort this year. I agree with JoeyB, though. I would like to see him ride it out in Utah, same as Stockton did. He has his family there, his radio show, etc. Stockton and Malone are forever inter-twined, it would be too weird to see Karl elsewhere. |

You're correct in thinking the Spurs are the natural favorite next year and who knows if the Lakers will finally have a successful offseason...but if Malone's choices are Utah or Dallas, he has a better chance of a championship deep in the heart of Texas. |
