Roy Jones vs. Antonio Tarver predictions w/ poll
The trilogy fight happens in just over 3 weeks time (October 1st). It could either renew the Roy Jones Legacy, or finally send the man into retirement. I'm not sure that after taking a KO at the hands of Glen Johnson and taking the last year off without a "warm up" fight that Roy can pull it off, but I certainly can't wait to see what happens.
I'd love to see Roy pull this off since he is still my favorite fighter but if I was betting money I would have to say it would be placed on Tarver. Anyone willing to give their 2 cents? |

First, I think Jones got whipped in both Tarver fights. Tarver was always the stronger and more controlling fighter. Jones now is unsure of himself, which, along with his speed, was his biggest asset. He will be very unsure of himself in this fight, and it will either lead to him going head to head with Tarver and getting knocked out again.....or fighting scared like he did against Tarver in their first fight and also against Johnson and getting TKO'd by a sympathetic referee.

But damn it, I just don't like Tarver. I think he's even more selfish and cocky and annoying than Roy Jones. He just never shuts the hell up. So I'm pulling for Jones. Just for the hell of it.

I really don't care who wins this. Wehn Jones lost to Glen Johnson, I almost gave up totally on boxing. I just don't think Jones has it anymore. But Tarver isn't enough to be a draw for the division, as well as being as old as Jones (but with less fights). I think Tarver will win, but I also expect this to be an ugly fight.

My heart is with Roy... but I can't pick him to win. I have loved watching Roy his whole career but I think his career was over 2 fights ago... I keep hearing that if he wins this fight he will be remembered as one of the greatest ever... I think he is already there even if this fight never took place.

roy's career is over and maybe he might get lucky in a few rounds but i seriously doubt that this fight will last too long, tarver in a knockout for sure
its sad that roys career might end on a losing note to a cocky guy like tarver but thats a bummer who knows, should be an interesting fight regardless

Jones will hang up the gloves with yet another loss after this one. Jones isnt the man he once was.

Eye of the Tiger, man, Eye of the Tiger. Jones had, Tarver has it now.
(Talk about cocky, when you meet your opponent, the beltholder, in the center of the ring and say 'What's your excuse going to be this time? That's confidence)

I don't think a lot of people realize that Jones is (was) much more a tremendous athlete than he is a boxer. A pure athlete tends to fall flat on his face (or back in Jones' case) when he ages, whereas the technician can squeeze a few more years out of his twilight. This is Tarver's fight for the taking, especially because he's in his prime and he needs some legacy. The loss of another great is sad for boxing, but I see a lighter Roy Jones in Floyd Mayweather Jr.
By the way, did someone forget to tell Roy that a "beard" is just a metonymy for being able to take a punch? On the other hand, he could just be going for the Kimbo Slice look. |

A horrible fight from both fighters. When either one of them chose to actually engage the other fighter, they seemed to be able to dominate during that period of time. So why didn't either of them continue to do so?
Tarver won, but not because he did much. He seemed laconic. That's ok though, because Jones ran away from him for almost the entire duration of the fight. The 11th round was exciting, though!
