"hackySack" or footbag players? - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

hey everyone
i'm wondering if anyone on TFP plays footbag or as many of you call it "hackysack".

I have been playing for a while with a stupid hackysack and since april, i bought a slightly better footbag.

and then, i decided to buy an even better one but at the high price, i started making my own.

right now, i'm about a 2add (level of difficulty). theres 7 add. my friend Matt is close to 4add.

I used to play hackysack all the time as a kid and in highschool.

I have one really good memory of hackysack about three years ago. About 10 of us were playing on a big deck at my mothers house. Someone would always kick it off everytime. So you would have to walk down the stairs and get it. It would delay the game. It was happening so much that my brother(who is completly crazy by the way) said "Next time someone kicks it off the deck they have to go get it,but we all are going to try to spit on you. Once you pick it up, the spitting stops." Now it was a game! Just imagine 9 guys leaning over a deck railing trying to spit on someone! I never laughed so hard in my life. My brother called it "Spitsack" and they have been playing it ever since. Some of these guys end up covered in spit! I don't play because I always kick it off the deck. Its so gross, but so funny!

i'll have to mention this to everyone in the kicking circles...

although, what i play with my friends is what's called FREESTYLE. mostly tricks linked by a few hits. RARELY goes out of reach. but at school, we just play with a regular hack cuz ppl would spit and it would get ON the footbag and they also do the stupid toe-pick-ups that ruins the footbags. but it's still fun as hell.

even seeing the guys who never tried with their steel toe boots! hahahah...

btw: how does everyone like my footbags? the big one "sandmaster" is the one i bought for 20$... now i can make one for 10cents canadian. it just takes time!

I teach in an alternative education setting (ie bad kids) and we hack all the time as a way to fill up down time with the kids and show them that their teachers are just kind of normal guys too. It works great since for those twenty minutes or so they are enjoying themselves and not seeing us as the bad guys.

and as for ettiqute in hack circles.......

when we played.....you could never serve yourself by hand...if you did,the next dude who gets the hack,gets to whip it at you as hard as he can.....we called 'em pelts.

if you serve by hand,it has to be to another player.

you are aloud to serve yourself by foot though.

if you made a bad pass and said you were sorry.......again,you get pelted........no sorry's aloud.

i still kick it around abit.......my son is workin' on it as well........great little sport.

my wife thinks i'm fucked eh cuz,whenever we're out and i see some kids hackin',i always ask if i can join the circle,kick a few with the punks ,say thanks and carry on.

flyman, those are the rules we play by. we call them 'hackburns' instead of pelts.

the spitting made me chuckle. i thought i was pretty damn good until i looked at that website, and realized i'm pushing 3add. crazy guys, i would'v never thought of some of that shit.

hmmm...

well i've never heard of that rating system, i guess i'll have to check out the site.

but me and the boyz used to muck around with a hackysack EVERY luchtime at school for years...
it was great fun,

when we were playing with people who were all pretty good, we'd play "stings" ...
that is: whoever dropped the ball had to turn around and have the hacky thrown at their back...

or else we just played that whoever dropped the ball was out, and you continue until there is one person left.
then repeat.

then after awhile we graduated to a soccer ball and a really big circle... that was harder because the soccer ball is bouncy, and if you put too much force behind the kicks the thing went flying!

we still play with hacky sacks occasionally,
