NFL/TFP Fantasy Football league

Just wondering since !Yahoo has opened up the Football sign ups if anyone had any plans on running the league again this year, I think it may have been Donuts who did it last year??

Also maybe we can use this as an ongoing discussion for the categories and number of teams, I think a 10 man league is good enough

Also when picking number of roster spots think about this I like to point out to help everyone decide.

Let's say we have a 10 man league, MOST leagues will start 2 RB's then if we add in a Flex postion while it can be a WR/RB you start to
REALLY stretch the talent pool thin.

10 teams with 2 starters = 20 RB drafted, then let's say you grab 2 more RB to cover for bye weeks thats another 20 RB drafted, this puts us at close to 40 RB drafted alone, and this does not even count into the Flex positions.

Granted you might use a RB at a flex position until you need them for a start for a bye week to one of your starters etc, and just fill the flex in with a WR that week.

I like competition, but all too times I see someone unintentionally make a huge league for competitions sake but it just relly hurts the talent pool for everyone.

Last year was a great league and hope we can get it back up again.

and Dylan..DONUTS is always you.

I am still mad at you for getting Zito from me for Petitte a couple years ago in the baseball league only to have him blow his elbow up

I thought I swiped Frank Thomas and Delgado for Maggs and Dye. Then Maggs got injured like two games later and hasn't been the same since.

edit: btw, let's get the tfp-nfl league started early. last year's league, which was entirely my bad, was too weighted on TDs with yards barely counting. let's start brainstorming roster sizes, etc, with a target draft day for the first part of August.

I do not think you got Delgado and Thomas from me for them two.

Could have, but I highly doubt it.

on the NFL note, I would like to see maybe 10-12 teams

pretty standard scoring

TD 6pts
passing yards 20 per point
rushing yards 50 per point
rec yards 50 per point
1 point per reception
1 " " completion

I did not really care to have the individual defensive players last year, did not really do anything for me, also the flex players are nice but I also would like to see them limited to one.

I think last year we had 1qb 2rb 3wr 1te 2flex kicker def team and an idp

i dunno maybe we can all hit the chat room sometime this week and talk it out face to face.

I prefer a draft a bit closer to the season say very late august early september, due to injuries and actions like ricky williams bullshit last year. wasting that #1 pick on a guy who blows out an ACL or decides to retire due to a drug test can really make you wanna pull a Thugs in Lugz and not mess with your team

I'll volunteer again this year.

One note on the league, though. Since we ran into problems with trade vetoes this baseball season, it might behoove us to have the commish be the decision-maker. He/she can get feedback, let everyone know why the trade is going through or not, and then make the decision.

We also need to have everyone participating to list-out his/her preferences on scoring composition, number of teams, etc.

Interesting suggestion on scoring. It seems weighted for someone like Peyton but that's cool. Do we want to include negative scoring like INTs and fumbles? What about field goal kicking with distance of the field goals factoring in? Oh, and I agree that the defensive player aspect needs to go.

I would prefer 10 teams with guys who we know will start and actually finish the season. Enough of the Thugz in Lugz crap.

I would say let's shoot for the third weekend in August as a draft date (Aug. 20th or 21st).

i'd love to join in,
but i'm in another (non-tfp) league.
pm me if you need an extra,
i'll play to make it 10 if you need it.

and not that it matters if i'm not in the league,
but here's a scoring system that i really liked.
it accounts for benchmark yardage to be weighted equally across positions.
the per game benchmarks for passing, receiving, and rushing are 300, 100, and 100 respectively.

so passing 30 yds/ pt
rushing 10 yds / pt
receiving 10 yds / pt.

would all give 10 pts to that player for the game.
it's a bone that i have to pick with my other commish.

personally, i like IDP leagues. we had 5 last year, and went up to 6 this year. 4 or 5 is probably better. you can get points for things like tackles, sacks, pass deflections, INTs, and even return yards... there are several DBs who also return kicks and punts.

ricky....

... and the whole reason i came into tilted sports.....

ricky williams just became available in my (non tfp) fantasy league.
i dropped an extra IDP - keith bulluck - to pick him up.

am i crazy?
does anyone else see value in him?

my other RBs are dominick davis & brian westbook, with deshaun foster on the bench. and now rasta ricky.

i think he's got potential, and that's why i'm willing to wait out the suspension.

should i try to use him as trade bait? i'm thin at WR... steve smith, jimmy smith, and dante hall (we get return yards... he was money last year). who would be the WR y'all want most?

edit: should i have started a new thread?

I'd keep him as a backup only, because of his suspension and because of Ronnie Brown. He'll get his carries, but not anywhere near as many unless Brown gets hurt or busts dramatically.

Everything is open to change. I just set-up the basic league and we can change before the August 21st draft date.

***EDIT***: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo....nprivateleague

So I take it we all have to be at the Tilted Gridiron page at that exact time on August 21st? Right?
And if we're not the computer drafts for us?
Or if we have our listed draft order on the page, will the computer pick from the list we have made, and pick the next available person on our list? Does that happen?

The draft order is posted a half hour before the actual draft. You can pre-rank players in the pool and, if you can't make it to the draft, the server will pick players based on your ranks. It's a lot more fun to do a live draft, IMHO.

Also, someone brought up the point about the league being heavily weighted towards QBs. While it may seem that way on the surface, the number of touches (for RBs) and receptions (WRs) are included in the scoring. I'm not sure if it completely balances things out but I just thought I would mention it. Like I said, everything is open to change except for the number teams and the draft date. This is your league; tell me how you want it.

And yes, we have 10 teams, now. If someone should back-out before the draft, I will post on here to lure some other unsuspecting fool.

Okay, another question. Is there a good site I can reference that will give me information such as which RB's got the most touches last season, or WR's got the most yards, etc?
Also, is there some good sites I can go to that will have fantasy football rankings that I can use as a reference point when I put my list together...

And finally. Does Dan Marino still play?

For free fantasy, albeit not that reliable advice, try the front page of yahoo fantasy. They collect articles from various sites that give you some insight into what to look for when drafting, etc. ESPN.com also has some advice but you usually have to pay for it.

As far as stats, just use the players tab on our league home page. You can sort statistical categories of any group of players.

If you're asking about Marino, I think you're in for a long season.

If you look at the player rankings now, it will show you how many points each player would have gotten under the points system As it is now, the top Qb's last year scored in the range of 500 pts where as the top rb's were only in the 250 range. If you can get it to where there is only 100 pts. or so separating the top qb from the top rb's then I personally think it would create a lot more balance in the league. I left a suggestion to maybe subtract points from QB's for each attempt. Let me know what you think about that...
