Davis Cup - Tennis
Anybody here watch us get killed by the Croatians?
I mean they only had two playing in the Davis Cup. And the one bald guy beat Agassi, Roddick and the Bryan brothers. Sheesh!

American tennis has gone downhill a lot since the days of Jimmy and Johnny Mac. When I grew up tennis stars had pizzazz and flair, personality that made it fun to watch. Today they don't have that.
I remember as a kid when my friends and I would play tennis we'd choose who we were and try to play like them. I was always JIMMY CONNORS..... he was the best and he added humor and excitement to the game. I think that tennis is too "slow" and too "athletic" for people in the US now and they just have lost interest. Therefore the kids don't really play and the talent isn't there anymore. Hopefully, it will change and kids will get involved again and we can actually have talent out on the courts again. PS I like Agassi, but he's getting older and he lost focus when he married Brooke Shields. He's still good but I don't think he's hungry to win.

I just love people who use the excuse "I use/do this because I LOVE the feeling/joy/happiness it brings me" and expect you to be ok with that as you watch them destroy their life blindly following. My response is, "I like to put forks in an eletrical socket, just LOVE that feeling, can't ever get enough of it, so will you let me put this copper fork in that electric socket?" |

The US has some good prospects like Donald Young coming up, but right now it just doesn't look good. Agassi is on his way out and Roddick has been unable to make any progress in his game. If Roddick could have developed a rivalry with Federer, interest might have started to grow in the US. Unfortunately he's been dominated by Roger and no one wants to watch their countryman get bludgeoned repeatedly.
I just think we're going to have to wait a while before we see American tennis get back to where it was, but I'm confident it will get there. |

All sports go through cycles. I don't think any country can be consistently at the top in any sport forever.
I don't really think it is Roddick's fault he is struggling with Federer - he is not really alone in that at the moment.
