He said he would do 45 million but they are stretching already at 42. 40 mill would give the NHL confidence that all teams could make money.

Personally, if he's so worried about his owners spending so much that he has to keep the cap that low, then maybe, just maybe, the problem is with the fucking owners.

maybe its what he doesn't want to admit: it was him and the owners who started this, the players who took it to where it was a problem.

the NHL doesn't have the talent pool to support 30 teams. the NHL owners have no idea how to 'control costs' the players saw no cap and turned it into "ridiculous contracts for underacheivers"

its frightening when a guy like pavel bure who has played 80 games just 4 times in his career (11 years) makes 10 million.

Bettman and Goodenow are being both being dicks, yes.

Yes, the owners broke the system. In saying so, players and agents exploited the system. You can beat that drum all you like, but beating it won't fix the system. But when a 3rd line player takes home more cash than all the owners of Edmonton SPLIT between them, something's broke.

they are playing the blame game. goodenow says its the owenrs fault and bettman says its the players fault. i stay with my argument that bettman should never have been put in as the comissioner. he doesnt know hockey.

Even if a deal was reached, the season should've been canceled regardless.

I think the best possible outcome of this totally shitty situation would be that we see a full season of hockey next year, or the year after that, with about 20 teams. Eliminate a couple hundred of the least skilled players. Make it so each fan gets to see a lot more of the Rangers, Wings, Canadiens, Maple Leafs etc. When I'm spending $100+ to go to a game with my wife, I have high expectations. No offense intended but seeing Columbus, Nashville or any team from Florida is not what I'm looking for in that price range.

maybe some of the owners but not all. some of them know what they are doing and are not completely obsessed with money as some of the others are.

that really wasn't my point, it was more of a sub plot thing. Since bettman is only there because the owners want him there, the guy really has a problem with teh owners, not bettman. Sorry for being misleading.

The Impasse deal sounds like the loaded gun the NHL was looking for. The offseason should be interesting.

Although I'm not surprised if there is no NHL this time next year.

offseason should be interesting.. i think bettman said there will be a draft too.. something along the lines of "before the new season there must be a draft" something along those lines?
