Duke-UNC
Well boys, next Wed will be here before we know it - I honestly like Duke's chances playing at home and I think one of the main keys to this game is that the Dookies stay way the hell out of foul trouble even with the Tarhole's ability to run the fast break often (and effective). If Duke can slow it down somewhat, hold the Heels to less than/around 40%, I'd say Duke wins easily. I'm obviously biased, but I'm looking forward to it...I think they match up very well with 'em..
BTW, did anyone see that garbage throat slash from sorry-ass McCants last night? Anyway, GO DUKE!

Both teams suck, but Duke sucks more.
Here's rooting for a 2-0 Tar Heel win with the top seven on both sides fouling out in the first ten minutes.

All signs point to a UNC victory but it's tough to pick against Duke in Cameron. Let me get off the fence though, Tarheels by 3.

Duke wins 71-70.
Great game, but Carolina got lucky on the no-call with less then a minute left, then another no-call with what Reddick clearly had position in transition which I thought should have been a charging call. None the less, always an epic battle. |

For some strange reason, ESPN didn't air the game in my region of MD, but it was on a local channel that shows ACC games. If a replay of that "no-call" with Reddick was shown on ESPN, I didn't get to see it. In live action, I thought it was a good no call. I fucking hate how refs call clearly bad charging calls. It plagues NCAA Mens BBall, and it is evident in the NBA too. Reddick was playing Felton, and then once the pass was made, it looked like Reddick slid over and didn't establish position before McCants went airborne. Regardless, Duke played very well. Ewing hit too clutch threes, and McCants couldn't connect on anything. |

Duke is lucky. They ended up a Raymond Felton brain-fart away from going 0-2 between tonight and this Saturday. Doubt that would look good for the polls.

hahah, more like 8 felton brain-farts - his 13 points didn't come close to canceling out those 8 turnovers by a duke D that came ready to play like always. you can't give them their due credit dj can you? i was more than impressed with the way they dominated, held the heels out of their run and gun, didn't commit ticky tack fouls, and hit their freebies. what a solid fucking performance. go to hell carolina go to hell - can't wait for this saturday night...

Part 2 in 30 minutes...
Can't believe they have Duke as a 7 point dog, think they have an excellent chance at yet another sweep as long as they stay out of foul trouble again. Ahhhhh, gotta love college bball. GO DUKE!

As a UNC student... I have never seen anything as ridiculous as the celebrating last night. Franklin street, the main drag in town, was packed with students and no fewer than three huge bonfires were burning in the middle of the street. You couldnt even move there were so many people screaming and cheering. The police couldnt do anything about it and just stood by and watched. Many classes were cancelled today as professors realized that everyone was going to be too hungover to show up anyways. Unbelievable.

I agree, I felt it would have been justified even if Maryland didn't make it even with a decent ACC tournament showing. They lost three consecutive games, and were swept by another ACC bubble team (NC State). After today’s loss, I don't think they deserve a bid.
I respect your views on Duke. I don't like them, but that doesn't equate to a lack of respect for what they accomplish. I have to harp on one thing though. Quote:

I think Maryland still has a good shot at a bid, but they do not deserve it at all.
The team this year never gelled, and was only able to get up for Duke (who they were essentially a perfect match with). This was possibly the most talented team at Maryland since Gary Williams has been coach (three, I believe, McDonald's All-Americans and a bunch of Top 100 guys), but it was never all brought together. The inside guys weren't playing inside, and the team with a few exceptions wasn't a good defensive team. The good thing is that Will Bowers seems to be emerging as a solid at least inside guy for next year, while John Gilchrist can put the team on his back (he was injured today for the second half). Chris McCray is a good shooter and a great defender. Nick Caner-Medley is inconsistant, but very tough to defend when he's on. James Gist looks like he'll be a major force in the conference as well. I have hope for next year, especially against Duke , and believe this was simply a lost season that won't be repeated.
