Patriots vs. Eagles

Which ever team's quarterback makes fewer mistakes will most probably win the game, because the defense of each team is solid. Bradely will most likely win that battle, but McNabb's great arm could very well win the game. What do you think?

Oh by the way...I think the Eagles will win a wild game by 3 points.

I'll ask again who do you think will win???

crewsor 01-23-2005 07:54 PM

I thought the Eagles would have choked already. I gotta go with the champs with an easy win. The Pats just look too good to lose to a mediocre Eagles team.

My thoughts exactly. Except this year the Eagles will choke during the super bowl rather than the playoffs.

drakers 01-23-2005 08:05 PM

Wow, if this is what most people think then the media will probably portray the Patriots as the strong team and the Eagles as the big underdog. I wouldn't say the Eagles are mediocre by any means, they only lost 3 games all year, that ain't bad. Look at it from their side, 4 straight AFC championship games and they are 1-3, they want this game bad and I'll bet they will make it a very tough game on the Patriots. I also know the Patriots are very mentally tough so again I feel it will be a fairly even game untill the 4 quarter ends and their is a winner. Which is hopefully the Eagles!!

RogueHunter65 01-23-2005 08:26 PM

It will be a win for the Pats.
The defense that the patriots has stops a lot of the running game, making the other team throw the ball. Then when the ball is thrown the Pats defense picks up the interception. They had 3 against The Stealers, 4 against the Colts, and many near misses. I think that the Eagles offense just will not be able to put the points on the board.

NFC Championship games

boom29 01-23-2005 08:36 PM

Although I want the Eagles to win, my initial reaction is that the Patriots will win a close game. Most people don't give the Eagles a chance, but nobody gave the Patriots a chance three years ago. Above all, I'm just hoping for a good/interesting/exciting game.

FloydianOne 01-23-2005 09:26 PM

I really hope the Patriots dont win, mostly because im tired of them winning and I dont like Tom Brady for some reason. However, the odds are definatley favoring the Pats....

munchen 01-23-2005 09:37 PM

If the pats can shut down the colts and the steelers offence, they can shut down the eagles. If they can score at will on the steelers, they can score on the eagles. I think the pats are just too strong a team right now to be stopped. Pats will win

Rdr4evr 01-23-2005 09:50 PM

Owens will more than likely play in the game, so if he and McNabb can tear apart the defense, they will have a decent shot. Not only that, but their defense must come up big and not only stop the rush, but force turnovers as well. It's time for a NE upset, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Eagles.

Nimbletoe 01-23-2005 10:39 PM

TO, if he does play, will be nowhere near 100%, and probably a non-factor. The Pats embarrased the Colts and soundly beat the Steelers... there's no way i'm betting against the Pats this time.

Zeld2.0 01-24-2005 12:39 AM

Id put the odds on the Pats to win

That being said, if TO comes back, the Eagles still have a shot - TO doesnt even need to be 100%, just give the perception he is and he's probably the most valuable decoy

IMO both teams are very similar - they were both tied in defense in terms of yards given up, and their offensive ranks are very similar - rush advantage Patriots, pass probably Eagles - and Akers vs. Vinatieri, two of the best kickers as well

Its actually something to think about - both are very very good teams all around

jay-g 01-24-2005 12:47 AM

The Pats played the #1 offense in the NFL and beat them with defense. Then they played the #1 defense in the NFL and beat them with offense, and all of this without two pro-bowl players, Seymour and Law. Also the Pats are not a ego-tistic team. They have one goal and that is to win. Bill Belicheck, Tom Weiss., and Romeo Crannel., is a very powerful trio of coaches. With their minds and the high caliber of players on both sides of the ball, thats definitely a dynasty. Plus the NFC is weak, so in BCS terms, the Eagles record doesnt mean a whole lot to me. Pats by 13...

spongy 01-24-2005 03:37 AM

I would like to see Philly win.
A thought that has been bugging me of late. Leinart is percieved as a "system QB" at USC, yet Brady is a genius for the Pats. IS there a big difference I'm missing?

I could not agree more. 13 points easy because Belicheck, Weiss, and Crennel have TWO weeks to prepare.

canuckguy 01-24-2005 04:46 AM

If philly wants to win, they better not throw the ball often, mcnabb over threw some passes against atlanta. those won't be incompletions against the pats! better just run...run and run.

Well, I dunno who told you that about Leinart, but the fact that he would have been the first pick in the draft had he declared should tell you something about that. Both are great QBs at the level they play at.

The_wall 01-24-2005 07:46 AM

Big Patriots fans here. I was nervous about the Colts and the Steelers games, but my team proved what they were truly made of. Patriots defineatly have this game won imo.

loonatic8her 01-24-2005 07:52 AM

I am a long time Falcons fan and the Eagles made us look like chumps yesterday... so I have to cheer for the Eagles... they are from the NFC, they beat us to get to the Superbowl... however I dont think they have enough to beat the Pats. The Patroits have NO evident flaws... I dont forsee any scenario in which the Eagles can beat the pats unless Brady has a lousy day.... maybe McNabbs mom can get him some tainted Campbells Chunky Soup so he will be sick????

So do Reid and Johnson. The Eagles record after a bye week is amazing. (And look at what they did after four bye weeks.) The weakness of the Colts was that besides being a dome team, their defense was non-existent. The Steelers weakness was a rookie quarterback that teams now had game tape of.

The weakness of the Eagles is a lack of a dominant running game. If they can manuever around that, it's going be a long day for the Patriots.

Esen 01-24-2005 08:50 AM

Does that mean you are betting on the Eagles BonesCPA ?

I've only actually bet on the Eagles once - and won. I can't bet on the Eagles in a right mind. Do I think they are going to win? I guess the best way to put it is that in the next few weeks, if you cut me, I will bleed Eagles green.

Ilow 01-24-2005 10:06 AM

Even if I was impartial, I wouldn't bet against the Pats, they do an excellent job of disguising their weaknesses, and exploiting the other teams. Even if TO comes back to play, he might catch some balls, but his overall significance will probably be minimized. I believe that the Patriots preparation will allow them to win a pretty tight game. Also, it's probably not too big a deal, but Phil. seems to have a little too much "happy to be there, we're over the hump" mentality after so many NFC champ. losses; it's hard to stay focussed, if in the back of your mind you feel like you've already reached a goal (I really don't think that this is a big deal, I just thought I'd throw it out there.)

wolf 01-24-2005 10:16 AM

I am a huge Pats fan so I hope they win. The Steelers were supposed to be our tough match. We outplayed them, however I still have lots of respect for them, they are a great team. The Eagles are a good team as well, or else they wouldn't be going to the SuperBowl, however I don't think they have what it takes to beat New England. ]

It won't matter what they try to put together, if they pass the Pats will shut it down, if they run the Pats will shut that down. They proved that yesterday against the Steelers. Whenever the steelers changed their offense, the Pats altered their defense, and the same goes for their offense.

Since this will be the last year with the big 3 - Belicheck, Crannel, Weiss. I hope they win it.

Big surprise with this prediction.

The Patriots are the best team in the NFL. They will not be beat in the Super Bowl, if they play their game and avoid injuries.

I'm huge Pats fans but even I'm shocked by the manner in which they've blown through the AFC's "competition." Who woulda thought that Big Ben would've had a better playoffs than Peyton?

The Patriots will eventually lose in the playoffs but it's not gonna happen this year.

runtuff 01-24-2005 12:52 PM

The Patriots are a team. Everyone plays, everyone has a job, a part in the big picture. Everyone is focused. What did one of the commentators say during the game, something like, "there are no ERW guys (eat, ride and workout) guys on this team. Everyone plays. The Eagles are going to have a hard time keeping their focus and not just be in awe of the whole SB hype/circus going on around them.

I too am shocked how easily the Pats blew through the playoff teams. So what will they do for an encore??

maximusveritas 01-24-2005 02:11 PM

I predicted the Eagles would win at the beginning of the season and I'm still not going to back off of that, with or without TO. I wouldn't bet too much on them, but I still think McNabb will come through in the end.

radioguy 01-24-2005 02:29 PM

i'm hoping the Patriots will win, but everybody seems to be going against them so i actually think that the Eagles will pull it out. not that they are going to embrace the "we get no respect" thing, but the Patriots are such a heavy favorite to the public.

twotimesadingo 01-24-2005 05:52 PM

I find two things interesting in this discussion:

1) While many people here may not fall into the category, I think it's good to note that while the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys had huge legions of fans in their respective heydays, the Pats fandom is almost entirely nested in the Northeast, whereas the make-up of dynasties like Dallas and San Fran were not so regionally-centered. Strange. Is this a case of most people not liking N.E. teams?

2) I think it's possible to say - though I'm sure the point will be argued - that the Patriots of the last five years are the best exmaple of a team that any professional sport in America has seen in a long time. And yet, it still has its critics. This to me is interesting, as well.
I admit, I come from New Hampshire, so I am a bit biased. But I've always liked teams that played as such. Years and years ago, when George Carl coached a Seattle Supersonics team that played like one at least half the time, I rooted for them. I rooted for the L.A. Lakers when I was tiny, in every game they didn't play against the Celtics, because I thought that Magic's Lakers were as good a team as Larry's Celts. It goes without saying that I rooted for the BoSox since I've been old enough to read the letters on the TV, but for the past two years they have been as good an all-around team in baseball as has been in years. Thus, regardless of from where I come, I think the Patriots would have my loyalty now. Rooting for a team that truly is not dominated by overpaid, primadonna Pro-Bowlers is as good a reason as any to hope they win, and show how having gel in a unit is more important that hunting for the best receivers in the off-season...

munchen 01-24-2005 06:44 PM

i wanna throw a question out here. Would TO coming back really be that big of a deal for the pats? I know he's an amazing receiver and a big asset to the eagles, but should that worry the pats right now? They shut down Manning to Harrison, and thats with Manning to wayne to worry about along with Stokley, James and Pollard. They shut down the Steelers receivers, i know its a rookie QB but nobody else could do it before them. So will TO be a big as a factor as everyone says? If Manning couldn't do it to the pats why can Mcnabb?

I guess i just don't see what's so much better about the eagles offence than what the pats have already faced.

Are you suggesting that the Eagles are the anti-Patriots? Excluding the 2004 offseason, the Eagles haven't gone after the big name free agents. And the interesting thing is that I think the Eagles are as much of a team as the Pats are. My best example of this is two former players who left for higher dollars elsewhere, were released after a year or two, and came back to Philly for substantially less money. Both Trotter and Douglas indicated that leaving for higher money was the wrong thing to do, and that they were happiest with the Eagles. (And the Pats may not have gone after receivers, but a running back.....)

Excluding T.O., their Pro-Bowlers are almost all home grown talent, and I don't think any of them are considered primadonnas. I don't see any Deion Sanders or Randy Moss types in the bunch. I may be a homer, but don't knock the Eagles to praise the Pats. These two franchises should be the example of well run organizations. When you get to the end of the season, look at number of wins and salary cap space, and I can guarantee the Pats and the Eagles will both be in the top echelon in both.

twotimesadingo 01-25-2005 03:29 PM

No, no, Bones, I wasn't knocking the Eagles by any means. My post was a response to the posts before mine that noted that others were sick of seeing the Pats win. If anything, I think the Eagles are a great representation of a team playing good football.
After letting go of that hold-out fuck Duce (who used to be my favorite back), and - as you mentioned - excluding TO, I think the Eagles tend to be a very low-key, yet high-octane team.

socal 01-26-2005 11:28 PM

I think any of the AFC teams from the playoffs would beat the Eagles. Given that, Go Patriots

dragon2fire 01-29-2005 11:11 PM

againist the colts i picked the colts ....no way the pats could win...againist the steelers i picked the steelers ....no way the pats could win.....damit i learned my leason they are the champs for a reaosn and intill some one knocks them off

the420star 01-30-2005 08:16 AM

I am an eagles fan, but i hate to say it, but i think that pats are going to kill them. IF you all have watched the last few games brady is just playing too good, and his denfense is amazing too. As for TO, if he steps onto the field he will not be a non factor. The man is crazy he has a hyperbaric chamber in his house, and has been doing serrious rehab in the pool, if he is back he will be a factor.

I'm not really sure which team I hate more, so either way this superbowl is just going to be bitter sweet (only because one of the teams is gonna lose)
I'd love to see a tie so that neither team wins, but I'm gonna have to pull for the Eagles, even though I believe the Pats will win.

heccubusiv 01-30-2005 06:03 PM

The Pats are a much better team and as much i want to see the iggles win. It will be the pats victory, they beat the best defense and the best offense. They are gona crush the iggles
