I'm not even a watch sports kinda guy myself..I'd rather play them but I figured I'd post this anyway since some a you guys may find it an interesting read.

Police started following Neagle about 1:30 a.m. Friday after spotting him speeding in a white Cadillac Escalade across West Colfax Avenue on Ames Street near the Denver city line. An officer followed the SUV to West 14th Avenue, where he approached Neagle's car.

Neagle's eyes were watery and bloodshot, and he smelled of alcohol, according to the report.

When Neagle reached for his wallet, the officer noticed the pitcher's belt was undone.

When asked why it was unbuckled, Neagle told the officer he was just getting comfortable.

But the woman who was in the car with Neagle, Jill Russell, 40, told police that she had performed oral sex on him for $40. She was issued a summons for prostitution.

Neagle then admitted that he was in the area looking for sex, according to the police report.

Police ticketed Neagle for solicitation of prostitution, seized his $40 as evidence and explained his upcoming court date, to which Neagle responded:

"OK."

He was not arrested for drunken driving.

Neagle and his Chicago-based agent, Barry Meister, were unavailable for comment Friday.

This isn't Neagle's first run-in with the law. In October 2003, Neagle was cited for drunken driving after his Hummer hit another vehicle near West Alameda Avenue and South Kipling Street. He later pleaded guilty to driving while ability impaired.

The Jefferson County district attorney dismissed counts of DUI and careless driving.

Neagle was ordered to serve 40 hours of community service and sentenced to 90 days in jail, which was suspended. He also had to pay a $200 fine and court costs.

The Rockies signed Neagle to a five-year free agent contract in December 2000. His 2005 salary is $10 million, which jumps up to $12.5 million, with a $9 million buyout, in 2006.

He had reconstructive surgery on his left elbow in July 2003 and surgery for a torn left labrum in June 2004.

According to the 2004 Rockies Media Guide, Neagle and his wife, Jennifer, have a 4-year-old son.

He has received numerous humanitarian awards, including the 2001 Rockies Good Guy Award.

DENVER -- Denny Neagle's second run-in with the law in a little more than a year cost him his job with the Colorado Rockies.

The Rockies terminated the oft-injured pitcher's contract Monday, three days after he was cited for solicitation.

"This decision is about an organization and the fans that support it," Rockies chairman Charles Monfort said. "Denny's pattern of behavior has not been consistent with what our organization represents."

Neagle, who has not pitched in more than a year because of injuries, was pulled over Friday in suburban Lakewood for allegedly speeding. Police said a woman in his car told them he had paid her $40 for oral sex.

Neagle's agent, Barry Meister, declined comment. The players' association could file a grievance to overturn the team's decision and get Neagle the remaining money owed under the contract.

"We're going to have some discussions with central baseball," said Gene Orza, the union's chief operating officer.

Neagle was issued a court for summons for Jan. 27. The woman, Jill Russell of Denver, was issued a citation on a charge of prostitution and a court summons for Jan. 13.

Last October, Neagle was charged with drunken driving after he drove his sport utility vehicle into the back of another vehicle. Later in 2003, he pleaded guilty.

The 36-year-old left-hander, who agreed to a $51 million, five-year contract in December 2000, is owed $19 million by the Rockies: $10 million in 2005 and a $9 million buyout of a $12.5 million team option for 2006.

He last pitched on July 20, 2003, and in the past 14 months has had elbow ligament and shoulder surgery. Neagle has a 124-92 career record with a 4.24 ERA over 11 seasons. As many pitchers do, Neagle struggled with the Rockies, going 19-23 with a 5.57 over the two-plus seasons he was healthy.

In other moves, right-hander Tim Bausher was claimed off waivers by the Boston Red Sox and left-hander Justin Hampson was assigned to the Rockies' affiliate in Colorado Springs.

Bausher, 25, began the season with Milwaukee's Double-A affiliate in Huntsville, Ala., where he was 1-6 with a 3.67 ERA in 11 games. Bausher joined the Rockies on a waiver claim June 7.

Hampson, 24, spent the season with Tulsa, where he went 10-9 with a 3.49 ERA in 27 starts. Hampson, the Rockies' 28th round pick in the 1999 June draft, ranked second in the Texas League in innings pitched (170.1), tied for fourth in starts and seventh in ERA.

Colorado's 40-man roster now stands at 34.

Looks like the union will have its hands full, with the Yankees looking to unload Giambi and the Rockies unloading Neagle. It should send a message to players being paid waaaaay more than they're worth: Keep your noses clean.

I don't think it's right that the Rockies can use this to counter their fiscal irresponsibility. This wouldn't happen to Helton. I hope the player's union wins this and protect's Giambi.

My question is why would a lady say that to a cop if Neagle was just pulled over for speeding? I mean my God what was that, "officer he just paid me 40 to give him head. Now please arrest me as a prostitute so I can pay 250 in fines."

Wonder if either were on drugs? That would explain where Dennis the Menace's money went.

I missed his DUI, wonder what Coors' Beer owner and president of the Rockies McMorris had to say about that one.
