Pre season rankings only mean so much. You can evaluate the best conferences at the end of the season.

Coach Scott Drew has done amazing things so far. He somehow coached a group of no names into winning some big XII games and competitive in others (like against Okie State!) and now, to my utter disbelief and joy, has recruited a great class.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...ign/index.html yup, from a tragic national event to a top 25 class. Number 3 in the Big XII. Sic 'em Bears! |

I'm really excited about ACC basketball, but I'm really disappointed in Auburn before we've even played a game. We shouldn't bother to field a team this year, and just start practicing now for next season. We're just hurting other teams' strength of schedule, anyway.

hahahhaa .....no they are in fact the most overrated conferance in basketball and the one that gets the most hype. i liken them to the old show time lakers lots of flash. that said i will take the big ten this year to be the storngest conferance in basketball all those young guys form last season are going to be much better. i know for my hoosiers we only lost one player and no one that really matters. but hey we shall see thats why they play the games. |

Look at the current rankings: Wake Forest- #2 UNC-#3 Georgia Tech-#4 Duke-#12 Maryland-#16 NC State-#19 All these teams performed well last year and made the NCAA Tourney. GT and Duke made the final four. The ACC is dominant, and has been for a while. Talk about young guys and talent all you want. Even talk about Indiana who didn't do squat last year despite a great player in Wright. Thats the true hype. |

Final 4 appearances since 1990: ACC-17, Big 10-10, SEC-10, Big 12-8, PAC 10-5, Big East 4. I don't think we need any more evidence for the superiority of the ACC. And this from a Big 10 guy (I graduated from Indiana in '79). What I find the most interesting is how we don't know the players very well anymore. With the idiots going straight to the pros, or leaving school after a year, there's almost no time to build the hype. Even Duke loses players early now.

Wake Forest played GW last night, it was awesome to watch. The ACC teams are just so fast and hard-working, and they can hit some really nice shots. The only team that will be worse than last year is Duke (they lost their point guard, that will hurt), and they'll be pretty good. Can we please fast-forward to the in-conference schedule?

pre season ratings mean dick to use a example arburn was ranked 20th at the start of the foot ball season. they are now 3. the big 10 plays some of the best d in basketball and the coaches tend to preach fundmental ball. As i recall 2 years ago the cofferacne with the most teams in the tourny ah righ tthe big ten i know they had a down year last season this does not mean they are dead it means they all rebulit i am telling you watch out for a any big ten team this year form top to bottom they play the best d in the country. |

Wait a minute, you said that the big ten will have more teams than the acc in the tourney this year, and now you're saying that they'll have the same number. Which are you saying? And the six teams with a strong chance in the ACC are ranked higher than the 6 with a good chance in the Big Ten. And according to ESPN's Bracketology, if the NCAA tournament started now and they picked the teams based on hype alone, the ACC has 6 teams in, while the Big Ten has only 4. What does this mean--it's going to be an uphill climb for the Big Ten to have equal representation compared with the ACC, let alone surpass them.

So let me get this straight, your points are that the Big Ten did well two years ago, had a down year last season, and will play the best D in the country? Living in the past and speculating about the future isn't a convincing argument. |

The best team in the Big Ten is obvisily the Fighting Illini, hope fully they will reach the final four this time. With Brown, Williams, Powel, Head, and other talent they will most certainly be highly ranked this season.

Illinois is ranked #5, they have an excellent team. Guard play is huge in college basketball, and their backcourt is elite. Look at the last 5 champs, they all had at least one great guard.
Gordon-UCONN Melo-Syracuse (maybe played some 3, but he really was a guard for them) Dixon- Maryland Jay Williams-Duke Cleeves- Michigan State (hey, he was a real good college player) |
